installing aftermarket stereo

well i wired up my 88 rx7 and it does not play sound at all i plugged the stock one back in and it worked fine , i called a car audio place they said something about bypassing the stock amp which i have no idea were it is anybody got anything that would help

Yeah if you follow the wires they lead to little tiny amps for each speaker.

What I did is buy all new speakers and run NEW wires to the stereo.
6inch in back and 4inch in front I think. Also to replace the pass side front speaker you have to take apart the little amp.

You can use the factory speaker wires if need be. As stated below the rear driver side speaker in the tower has a brown wire plus a brown with white stripe connected at the bottom of the speaker tub and you can connect these wires to the speaker. At the bottom of the tub you will also find a plug with three wires and these are the amp wires which you don't need if you elect to power the speakers via the head unit or an amp which you install. If you have any questions try and pm me and I'll do the best I can to help you make the transition from a stock set up to one which sounds worth a darn.

What are the wire colors for adding aftermarket radio
LTBlue/Red= 12v+
LtBlue/White= +Accessory
LtBlue/Yellow= -power ant trigger
Red/Black=+ Lumination
White=Factory Amp Turn on

Ground to the body, use the 10mm bolt behind the center console front drivers access panel. Do not use the Red/Black as ground it will damage the interior light circuit and dimmer in the car

Front Speakers (maximum of a 15 watt peak from the radio):
LtGreen/Red= Left
LtGreen/Black= Left

LtGreen= Right
LtGreen/Yellow=Right

Rear Speakers (if applicable, if you have the amplified rear speakers again the Maximum of 15 watts peak is all the stock speaker amp input can handle):
Brown= Left rear
Brown/White= Left Rear

LtBlue= Right Rear
LtBlue/Orange=Right Rear

Note: as mentioned above the power antenna's trigger is ground (or - ). With all aftermarket radio's antenna output as 12 volts positive (+). To make a stock power antenna work you need a relay wired like this:

Some S4 models will have amplified doors woofers. There will be a round 6 pin low level DIN plug found on these models at the back of the radio.

Stock Speakers / Amps
Speaker Size:
Dash: 130mm (4”)
Door: 160mm or 150mm (6”) (note: true 6.5” speakers are 170mm)
Rear tower: 4” or 6"
Headrest: 3.5”
Rear floorboard: 5.25”

Amp Locations:
Door speaker amps are behind the driver’s dash speaker.
Front dash amps are next to the radio, or on the passenger’s side next to the pass speaker.
Rear amps are next to the radio (6" speakers), or on each speaker (4" rear speakers).
Headrest speaker amp is in the driver’s side just below the B pillar

OK, you're talking about something that I am currently dealing with. On the passenger side of my 1987 NA Rx-7, I took apart the amp to change the 4" dash speaker inside, and installed a new driver side dash speaker too, but neither of them is working. Does that amp power both front speakers, or just the passenger side?
I installed a Pioneer am/fm CD double-din and the rear speakers are operating fine. But no go with the fronts. If that little passenger side amp powers both speakers, that makes me think I need to get power to the amp somehow.
Can you shed any more light on the passenger-side dash amp please?

Just rip that amp shit out...
Run wires direct from DECK to speakers.It takes like 2 minutes to snake wires through to the front dash to Left and Right speakers.

Hope asm350 got it figured out in the last 8+ years!

I was trying to NOT need to pull the stereo out of the dash again, so was a sweating the front speaker problem. But it turned out to be easily fixed. I pulled the amp out from under the glove box and found both sets of speaker wires in its harness. Amp went in the trash and the front speakers wired directly to the harness. Sounds great. Thanks for the nudge into sanity. An added plus in the fact that the harness also has a hefty blue power wire that has been used to power another charging port in the glove box.
