Installing aftermarket horns, which wiring is correct?

I am thinking number 2 but want to double check.

Thanks,

Since a depressed horn button causes a ground to be sent out on the G/O wire, the second diagram should be the correct method.

that's what i thought. didnt want to melt anything. thanks :icon_tup:

No No No... you got it all wrong!!! You need to hook your horn wire up to 87a!

:)

ok, i need some help with this. i have everything wired like picture #2 and i am not getting a ground signal from the horn button. when i hook up the OEM horns, they works fine. when i hook up the new horns and relay, i just hear the cpu click on the inside of the car when the horn button is pressed. when i ground pin 85 on the new relay, the new horns work.

any ideas?

i am using a removeable relay harness plug thing, could one of the contacts be bad?

When the horn button is depressed what is the voltage on the G/O wire as it should be 0 volts.

87 t-66 07-12-11 09:11 PM

both signal wires have no voltage on them when the horn is not pressed in.

so i get 12v on the signal wire when the horn is pushed. i hooked it up like #1 and it works fine :D

G/W is supposed to be constant voltage while the horn button is connected to a ground and that would be the Green/Orange wire. I gather you have different wire colrs or something but if it works!

87 t-66 07-12-11 09:46 PM

i thought it was green/red but it could also be green/orange. it has 12v only when the horn button is pressed in

I must have misunderstood what you were doing for I thought you were replacing the CPU relay with a newer relay. Oh well.

i'm installing hella supertones. they are LOUD

Is 85 a power or ground? I thought 85 and 86 could be hooked up either way....as long as they were different.

they can be. one is ground, the other is the oem signal wire

ive got them mounted between my radiator and FMIC. i have everything put back together and my cooling panel that goes above them already screwed back down. i'm too lazy to remove the panel again right now. the horns look like this and are a lot louder than stock:
