It feels great! I have not got any MPG’s ratings yet of coarse, but it feels more responsive and starts up a lot easier when the car is warm. (It always starts perfect cold) I will keep you all posted on the rest of the results and the long-term gains .. but I must say it is a cake walk to install! It took no more than 1 Hr, and the rev limiter does work :) …. That could come in handy on a bad miss-shift. I wish I had some Pre dyno numbers .. but I am having the whole car Dynoed for the first time this Monday at 11am I can’t wait! :D

You have no clue how much the topic made me think you had a OHC motor in your 7 lol.

im thinking of adding a cdi box sometime soon ..looks nice, not too sure where i could mount it tho

bingoboy 11-10-02 02:24 AM

is the Crane box just for the leading plugs?

jsotelo 11-10-02 02:39 AM

I see the MSD lists a CARB number.. does this unit have a CARB certification on it?

I am afraid of not passing smog if I put one in..

Do you know if your trailing plugs are firing? The rev limit works by cutting spark to the leading coil , but the engine should still rev up if the trailing plugs are firing.

Mine will blow past the rev limiter.

Funklord 11-10-02 03:43 AM

i have the same thing, how do you get the rev limiter to work?

You splice the Yellow/white wire into the small red ... for a 12 volt signal only when the car is running.

Scathcart, I assume my trailing plugs are still firing .. but I don't think they alone can handle the sick amount of fuel I am dumping in the motor at that RPM ... I turned the rev limiter down to about 6k to test it ... and it felt like a BAD 3800 RPm stuble, kinda like hitting a fuel wall where the secondaries were not kicking in ... thats good enough for me. It could help in a bad miss-shift, thats the only reason I even have it hooked up.

Yes, it has a carb # and is legal in all 50 states. My thinking is it will improve emmisions. Most things that improve gas mileage also improve emmisions .. it is burning more of the fuel ... more efficently.

yes, but most all the after market CDI's for rotaries are just for leading .. including the MSD. I went with the crane (even though it was more costly than the MSD) cause of the rev limiter and its all solid state electronics.. the MSD has moving parts in it .. and does not take the heat as well as the crane unit. Pluis the black looks alot better in my engine bay than a bright red unit.

RXTASY1 11-10-02 12:41 PM

MSD makes a 4 channel ignition box.
Channel 1 goes to the leading coil and channel 2 and 3 go to the trailing coils.
The cost is around $250.

TheTwinTurboRX-7 11-10-02 12:51 PM

That looks pretty nice, you will have to let us know how it works out for you MPG wise and all.

Ben

J-Rat 11-10-02 01:39 PM

Very cool!

Cheers! 11-10-02 01:40 PM

the only rotary specific one is the HKS twin power... they are kinda costly though... around 400 USD

jsotelo 11-10-02 01:53 PM

I think when I replace my plugs and wires in the next month or so I will have to get one of these bad boys.. lord knows I need better gas milage than I get :-D

jsotelo 11-10-02 04:42 PM

So wait.. I was thinking.. if this only works for the leading what if I got a second box for the trailing?

I take it the rev limiter would work and would you get even more performance?

Would this be worth it to run two of these dogs? Has anyone done it?

My understanding is ... the way the trainling plugs fire you need 1 unit for each plug .. so that would be a total of 3 units $600 and where are you going to mount 3 units??? Plus the trainling plugs do very little, infact you car will run without the trailing coils working at all ... thats how almost useless they are

silverrotor 11-10-02 05:13 PM

Didn't Soul have all three MSD's mounted on/In his Storage Bins?

jsotelo 11-10-02 05:16 PM

Cool thanks.. I think I will try one of the boxes and see how that works :-)

Peep my Ryosuke Takahasi FC vs Takumi's Hachi Roku avitar :-D

Hey, what's the difference between the Hi-6 and Hi-6s?
Besides $65.00?

RpecK.. where did you get yours at? I see Summit has it for $200.00 is that the best price?

THANKS!

Ya, I got mine from summit for $200. I this the 'S' model just is like a plaug and play setup .. with direct connector hookup for distributor-less cars .. I doubt it will work right on a 7 ....

let me change that statement, I'm sure the unit will work right .. but I doubt the connectors will work.

And it would be great if you could run it like this, but you can't.

The box you speak of, the DIS-6, will only run the rear channels.

Unless, of course, you don't want split timing and run either a constant 15 degree retard or fire wastespark on the trailings (bye bye motor).

The minimum possible to run on a 2 rotor is two boxes, a DIS box on the trailings and a Regular CDI box on the leading.

You wont feel the dfifference with the extra box on the trailing, either; It'd be huge overkill.

I was under the impression the Hi-6s is an ignition amplifier as opposed to a CDI box. I'm sure Ted will pop in and answer this one...

But you want the HI-6, not the HI-6S.
