Inner Tie Rods/Boot Recommendations
 

I am about to change out my inner tie rods but I wanted to see what others preferences were on brands.

I saw Mazdatrix was around $65 a piece but I have found some other brands such as TRW for as low as $24 a piece.

Also, where are you guys purchasing the boots for the rack as well? Again I see Mazdatrix has them for $44 a piece but they seem to be cheaper elsewhere. I just wasn't sure on quality/brands of boots. I notice a lot seem to just come with zip ties to hold them in place.

I just did mine with Moog all around and recommend reusing your original boots if they are in good shape. The Moog boot installation was were really the hardest part for me. They were hard to fit over the rack end but seemed to be good quality. The Moog tie-rods, both inner and outer, were a good fit. Side-by-side Moog vs removed OEM, the OEM looked a little better for the inner rod, but same for outer. The outer Moog does have a grease fitting.

You'll need a thin wrench for the inner tie rod end, I forgot what size. I grinded down a harbor freight wrench to avoid spending a lot of money.

If you could check to see if there is any locking mechanism for the inner tie rod to where it bolts to the rack. We had a post a while ago and we were debating if there was a locking plate or something

I replaced my outer tie rod ends with Moog and I did like the fact that they had the grease fitting on them as well. The inners I thought of going moog for they are the same price as the ones from Mazdatrix. I just wasn't sure if there were any other brands that people tried and liked.

My passenger side boot is torn in one spot so I have to replace it and I figure I might as well replace the drivers side. Just know if it is worth the $44 cost of mazdatrix.

I plan on either picking up an inner tie rod removal tool from Harbor Freight or just renting one from autozone. Try to make life simpler when changing these out.

The wrench size is 24mm so if you get the inner tie-rod tool make sure the adapter has 24mm (I think 15/16-inch is the same). I used a wrench and grinded mine like Wankel7 did in the archives but ultimately didn't need to. My setup on the P/S was a little different so just a plain 24mm wrench worked. Recommend pull the boot first to see if you need to grind a wrench down. If it looks like this you won't have to modify a wrench. Blurring but you can see the flats and no bulge to worry about on the rack side.

I am finding that the moog outer tie rod ends are discontinued/out of stock everywhere? Where are you all finding them?

I got my Moog outers from Rockauto about a month ago. I did see like you said many places including Moog website showed 'discontinued'.

I got mine at rockauto as well. However, if you order them make sure to note that on your order you want the units with the grease fitting. Moog made two version, one with and one without the fitting. When I first ordered mine I got one of each so I had to exchange one out.

So it seems the brand of choice would be moog for the inners as well but not many people have chimed in. I appreciate the info that I have received though.
