injectors

Has anyone else thought of trying a different vehicles injectors? like for instance denso makes thousands of injectors another vehicle must have a matching top feed injector? Ford f and e series have extremely close injector setups to the s4 and they are about 1/8th the price.

also s4 tii's have 550 cc injectors right , so why does my injector list as a 460 cc?? how would this make the car run??

bostonspgs 07-08-10 09:51 PM

Tell me these wouldnt fit our rails

An 87 TII should have 550CC tan injectors.

Many different injectors will fit the car because injectors are of several standard physical sizes. And with a little creativity, you can make nearly any injector fit.

But you need an ECU that is capable of controlling them, such as a standalone. And with certain ECUs you may need to pay attention to impedance.

bostonspgs 07-09-10 06:02 PM

Will I need a standalone if they mount properly are low impedance and 550cc?

Btw the ones that are currently in it are N/A red 460cc , would this cause a lot of bucking, rich to lean bouncing on narrow afr, and similar situations , flooding , hot start issues?

Either way I bought the 550cc low imp evo 8 injectors , as im not rebuilding 460cc injectors to end up needing a new engine, I do understand the dangers of leaning out.

Also according to mitsu forums the Evo injectors(8,9) would be plug and play for us s4 guys, not sure if its any cheaper , but DEFINATELY better injector than single pin injector style stock 7s run

Aaron Cake 07-10-10 10:59 AM

If you have red NA injectors (check the part number with those listed in the FAQ) then the car will be lean accross the board. The ECU cannot compensate for smaller injectors.

If your car is set up for high impedance injectors and you install low impedance, you will need injector resistors.

bostonspgs 07-10-10 02:50 PM

nope i have the 332 ecu so no resistors needed , i realize i would and was lean and bouncy on the narrow band afr , but just wonderin other issues , other than heat that might have been caused by this , ie. stuttering rough long starts flooding (more likely the age of injector than size) and or hotstart issues i had , other issues i had have already been resolved. thanks for the info aaron very helpful as always

Here are my Primaries and Secondaries(what was on the car) and then the new Evo 8 that i am installing. Its hard to see in the pic but the last pic shows the lack of pin its a 4 whole spray pattern. Weird as it seems (and wrong) primaries were 550cc tans secondaries were 460cc reds, its like they put the engine together to blow.

thejallenator 07-14-10 05:20 PM

just so you know it has nothing to do with the ecu when it comes to high or low imp injectors. its more along the lines of the injectors themselves. if the injectors are low then you need the resister pack that comes with the car. also if this is on a turbo car those 460ccs were way too small for the thing.

bostonspgs 07-14-10 05:33 PM

Clearly i know 460cc is wrong No one said they were right , ever in a t2 , i was justing noting that a previous owner put the wrong ones in

This thread was meant to see if anyone else experimented with other vehicles low imp 550cc injector for plug and play exchanges ,instead of buyin the ones made for a 7 which are over priced.I have and i find Lancer evolution 8 injectors to fit in our rails and plug in with out the need for any modifications. Not to say previous setup was right , this i knew before I became a 7club member , hence the reason my car hasnt been driven til it is completely safe and reliable.

Aaron Cake 07-14-10 06:13 PM

You can use any injector you want as long as you can match the impedance (or add/remove resistors). The ECU doesn't know the difference. But if the sizes don't match, then the engine will run rich or lean. The ECU is so stupid that it will drive any injector happily, without knowing if the correct amount of fuel is delievered. This is why you can run larger secondaries but then need to control them with a piggyback.

bostonspgs 07-14-10 06:35 PM

I give up , my point is so clear to me but no one else it would seem
Lets try this again , without input on ecu, piggy back , impedance . I am speakin for the 1986-88 Turbo II models with 550cc low impedance Injectors.
in order to keep costs down without going after market or rebuilding, I have found 2003-05 Lancer Evo 8 oem injectors for 1/4 the price of our injectors brand new or about the same as rebuilding 4 injectors . They plug and play .
Anyone else try any different vehicles injectors for plug and play exchange ablities ?
Again not asking if others could work , more what has worked without customization of any form.

Seems if they will fit in the rails...........and seal at the bottom with the intermediate housing.........and are of the same resistance as the stk ones...........then all should be fine. Just another opinion.

See the injectors in this site: http://www.racetronix.com/3145FM.html

I emailed those folks asking if they had injectors to fit my 87 low reisitance injector car. They suggested the ones in the site pasted. Gee, they looked good when I got them.........but they would not fit the rails at the top. Seems the Plastic boss was too large a diameter. The metal with the orings just above the Plastic boss fit just fine. So instead of sending them back I machined the plastic down to a dia that was just a bit less than the bore of the fuel rai. Then their oring was fat and too big.........so I used two stk orings. The injectors work fine for over a yr now with no problems. Car goes zoom, zoom just fine.

ugghh how to make this easy

If you had a tire right , and it blew. now you have to buy a new tire(pricey)or get a used tire (either at a yard or anywhere) . one that is similar in all aspects ,yet not the stock part for this vehicle. so you go to a yard knowing the size you need . you look you find install it works.

now take tire out of this statement and replace with injectors

alex91n/a 07-14-10 07:36 PM

Ok ok I get it, u wana know if evo injectors work with 87 s4 tii rx7. Well as long as they are the same impedance.....hahhahahahaha jk I get wht ur saying and I've wondered the same thing before. I've seen Chrysler injectors for Sale that were at least 1000cc IIRC. And the other cars that I can think to check would like supra or 240sx

bostonspgs 07-14-10 07:44 PM

^Hahhhahh , finally someone else sees where i'm going
240s might work , but toyotas wont they are top feed but oddly compressed , i highly doubt they will fit our rails. Subaru would work for s5 tII . ford 7.3 might work for s4 na .

thejallenator 07-14-10 07:49 PM

i too looked into this but kept running into an issue..... they were all too damn small. i found plenty of injectors that would physically fit in place of the stock injectors but were always around150-300cc. nothing was ever up to what i needed.

bostonspgs 07-14-10 08:09 PM

i noticed that too . most of the v8s i was looking at were , well too efficient lol. so i looked at eagle talons and mitsu eclipses, the eclipse turbo injectors will work in an s4 n/a

the only common v8 injectors i could see workin are the ford 460 (super cobra jet) out of the f350 s of yester year

I'd have bought a new SET of tires since my present set of tires are near the end of their service life and I don't wanna buy one new tire that is a larger diameter (no wear vs the other worn tires).

Now go make a couple more brick walls to slam your head against....humor.

To answer your question.............try emailing places like RaceTRonix and ask them what else might work.

bostonspgs 07-14-10 09:58 PM

really hailers? i wanna know from the people who have tried others to see if they worked and what vehicle , not ask a sales rep .

I know humor and that ain't humor, but it did make me laugh.

Hazard15301 07-14-10 10:13 PM

Lol. I can see this thread is going to be full of win. The OPs question was answered three different times already. I guess if the answer you get isn't the answer you want, ask it again right?

I immediately showed a link to injectors for a lancer and previously referenced fords injectors for different models that will work with s4 stock n/a apps and turbo 2 just looking to see what other people have tried .theres thousands of injectors out there for different vehicles . Alot of them share similar properties for similar aplications . Some people have even thought of trying ford probe clutch kits over Rx7 due to availability and price difference. I'm thinking other people have thought along these lines for other items too.

Aaron cake definately helped out with this and a couple of other little questions i threw out there .

thejallenator 07-14-10 11:20 PM

ok the reasson yours say they are 460ccs is because there are a set of n/a and a set of tii injectors that share a number. if you look at the two next to each other you will notice that they are clearly two diffeent ones. this is something denso did back in the day for some reason.
now your comment on the ford 460 injectors. i call bullshit because i looked into those.(had a set laying around the shop, along with some off a 22-re) they were way too small to even use on an n/a. now since this car has been around for over 20 years im sure if there was a cheaper solution someone would have found it by now. were fc owners, we love to lowball and you know it.

bostonspgs 07-14-10 11:31 PM

the 460 cc is shorter by a bit than the 550cc . your right though they do list different part numbers .
not sure about the fords . I think they would fit , but im not sure i know alot of the smaller v8s have low cc injectors
