Injector impedance information
im not retarded, ive searched and found lots of info..
but also a few problems going by the list on rotaryresurrection.com 84-85 13B NT low square center 680cc orange 195500-0900 86-87 13B NT low square center 460cc red 195500-1350 86-87 13BT low square center 550cc tan 195500-1370 88 13B NT high square offset 460cc purple 195500-1350 88 13BT high square offset 550cc purple 195500-1370 89-91 13B NT high oval center 460cc red 195500-2010 89-91 13BT high oval center 550cc purple 195500-2020 my car is an 88 NA GXL. the stock injectors are red CENTER 460cc #195500-1350 so based on the table above, i figured the injectors from the factory had to somehow be the same as 87 models ? i bought tan top 550s to put in it, and i think this may be causing my problem. my cars supposed to be High Imp based on the 88 year, but according to the table and injector information i figured it was Low Imp. im going to measure them tomorrow to see whats up, but also i found this picture below... http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...d/100_4414.jpg according to the injector info table, these should be High Imp, and have offset notches. they obviously dont.. what gives? |
I'm not retarded also (well, it hasn't been officially diagnosed), and I find the table above also confusing. I have read the FAQ and archive sections multiple times, and have ignored this portion basically because I haven't needed it. I think this area could be improved by a chart divided into NA and Turbo, and also a section with primary and secondary injectors.
I think the safest way is for you to do two things: Pull the Pass. footwell carpet and EGI Computer cover and see what computer you have. The archives or FAQ should tell you if you have the right computer. The second thing is to check if you have the injector solenoid resistor (5-pin oval plug) under the air filter assembly, bolted to the body. If you have the earlier computers (N326, N327) and the solenoid resistor, you should use the low imped. injectors. Also, make sure you set the range on your multimeter right, so that you multiply the number by the right factor of 10. I'll check the 86-88 FSM for the right ohm range, but don't have the 89-91 at work. |
First of all, why are you putting larger injectors in your nonturbo? Only extremely modified nonturbos need bigger injectors.
|
that pic indicates the injector is low imp.
|
88 FSM...
NA: 12-16 ohms TII: 12-16 ohms I'm about to add to the confusion...this FSM doesn't say anything about the resistor for the injectors. Note I am NOT talking about the fuel pump resistor on the turbo's nor the variable resistor near the shock tower. So it would seem that the FSM for the 88's shows high impedance injectors, but the resistance seems kind of low. Like I said, the best way is to check the ECU and look for the resistor under the air filter. I'll look for a picture that I believe I took... |

post #2, last pic. shows fuel injector resistor. Cars with this have low imped. injectors. |
Is your (or any) multimeter sensitive enough to show 2.3 ohms, or is that set to x10, 100, etc.?

This is really easy.
2ND GEN: 86-88 low impedance SQUARE plugs ON CENTER - Low impedance. 88-89 High impedance OFF CENTER plugs 89-91 OVAL plugs high impedance only. Never mind the color, look at the shape only. |

If you read 2.3 ohms then they are low resistance injectors. Period. There's a good chance those are aftermarket injectors made by Beck/Arnley or such. Cost about sixty bucks or so apiece. If they were stock Nippon Denso they would have had numbers embossed on their side like 195500-13XXX or similar. Going by colors is nothing but foolishness. EDIT: No, it's stupid and nothing less. |
Something else I observed from the list:
2 of the NT injectors in the list have the same part number but with different connectors, and 2 of the Turbo ones mirror this. I would have thought there would be a different number to help differentiate the square and oval connectors, instead of just color. |
also, there are companies that bore out stock injectors to flow to whatever cc you want. so having them flow tested would be the only way to tell. i agree with hailers, using a multimeter should be the only way to test impedance.

And I did not mean to call Plat stupid for comparing colors. But the act of doing so is stupid if that is all one is using to figure out what a given injector is. Numbers plus colors makes sense. Colors alone with no number on the side of the injector.......nuts. |
i was just saying, my car was completely stock when i bought it, and im just changing the injectors now... (they have never been changed since brand new from the factory) and according to the table, my car should have purple injectors, when in fact they are red...
the chart isnt fool proof and im just trying to prove that for other members in the future so they dont mistake it like i have. p.s. i measured the resistance and i believe mine are high impedance. |

the chart isnt fool proof and im just trying to prove that for other members in the future so they dont mistake it like i have. p.s. i measured the resistance and i believe mine are high impedance. 12-13ohms is the high impedence. 2-3 ohms is low impedence. But if these injectors are original, then they WILL have the numbers embossed on their side just about where the jack on the injector is. So to satisfy yourself, remove one and look at the number embossed on the side. |
i have done so, and the number embossed on the side is "195500-1350"
the only problem with the # is that, they both have the same. 86-87 13B NT low square center 460cc red 195500-1350 88 13B NT high square offset 460cc purple 195500-1350 its just the color that was throwing me off.. the lower description, except for the fact that they are Red and not purple... im certain that they are read and have not color-changed over the years. --note: i also looked in my engine bay and i dont have a resistor pack anywhere, so that , along with measuring the stock injectors, i can be sure they are high impedance. |
I see. I fixated on that picture of the meter with the purple injector with centered tab and the 2.3 ohms.
88 should have offset tab and read 12-13 ohms and no resistor package and be 1350's written on the side. I'll quit now. I confused things enough. |

I confused things enough. mine are exactly that, except they are red... i think i bought low impedance injectors because of that... problem straightened out on my end.. just anyone in the future, dont go off of the chart, measure your injectors impedance from the get-go to be safe. :wallbash: |
