infini IV

I was woundering if anyone knows anything more about the second gen infini IV? I have been trying to find web sites about this car or someone that actually might own one but can't find a thing! I think I would rather have that car fully restored than a 3rd gen rx7 call me carzy but that was just a bad ass car. Anyways if anyone has any info on someone that may owns one or knows a website that may have actuall pictrues other than the black one that was in the book sports car color history rx7 I would love to see some actuall pictures. thanks.

Did you search? There are numerous recent threads which have the info you're after, including photos.
A few points to consider:
- They were only available in Japan in very limited munbers, so you need to find and import a rare RHD car.
- They may have been badass in their day, but any FC with a few thousand dollars of mods will leave it a long way behind.
- You'd have to leave it completely stock. Any mods would devalue it.

They were not available in North America so info is limited, however if you use the search function found in the upper right hand corner of this page you'll find quite a few links on them.

BTW, they were not black, they were dark dark green.

RX7withNitrous 04-08-03 03:36 AM

grrrrrrr how much hp stock?

M5150 04-08-03 04:56 AM

215 hp stock

l33trx7 04-08-03 05:00 AM

mmm infiny IV... sweet

Josepi 04-08-03 07:21 AM

I wonder if they got the extra HP by upping the boost somewhat. If they did, I wonder if the fuel map for those would be a nice canidate for copying.

Icemark 04-08-03 09:50 AM

The extra HP was from a revised exhaust manifold and exhaust system.

It was noticably louder than a normal T2. But the big key to the whole thning was it wasn't the bloated T2 that we got. They stripped out all the extras (even the radio and air conditioning went) and bunch of the insulation (much like the 86-87 Sport, with its limited insulation) so that the weight was to 2700 lbs.

suspension was modfied with spring rates 10 firmer, and shock valveing almost 25% stiffer than a US spec T2. Intresting though it got the 'verts 23mm sway bar up front, and rode about an inch lower than the US spec.

It also used the power steering rack out of the US spec GTUs and had the same engine speed sensing steering (unlike the US which used the better vehicle speed sensing steering) which the engineers at Mazda claimed gave better feel for autocrossing.

Thanks for the reply guys I know the fd would kick its ass but the look of that car just makes me drewl! I loved the description they gave it in one of my rx7 books they said there was no class for it in japan racing so it was just basicaly the TII muscle car version yumm. Anyways thanks for that picture you sent do you know where that came from or if anyone on this site owns one? I did do some searches yesterday on it however I didn't find the stuff I was looking for I actually want to see actual pictures of this car from people that have one so I can see what they look like not in mag also see if one might be for sale, fat chance huh, lol. Thanks again

Swift_7 04-08-03 04:46 PM

I agree.

I can picture one of those rich rich guys having a fully intact infini sitting in his car collection, absorbing value as time goes by.

If I was rich I would have an infini sitting in my garage, and it would be my favorite out of all the others, even if I had diablo's and shit.

God bless the INFINI and all the other 7's.

Icemark 04-08-03 05:09 PM

remember they were only right hand drive as well...

gsracer 04-08-03 05:36 PM

hmmm my car weighed 2720 when I took it to the track on a 1/4 tank and it's not really stripped at all :)

I'm getting a decent spring/shock combo anyway so I don't think that matters, and for the record I can't live without radio. I can junk a/c, or anything else but I gotta have my tunes ;)

rotary>piston 04-08-03 05:55 PM

That's an awesome car. I especially like the little infinity symbol on the back. I think it's cooler than any FD. I don't know if I'd want one though, I'd be too nervous driving it.

hondahater 04-09-03 08:46 AM

oh yeah I would be nervous as hell but man I would love being like that guy on the hondai commercial that goes out side and just stares at it, lol. that car is the shit and one day if I get rich I will have one. Does anyone know about how many are in existance? Thanks again for posts

Icemark 04-09-03 10:10 AM

Its just a car...

no, the 'verts use 15"x6.5" wheels, the infini used 16"x7" wheels.

Where did I mention they were?

I know the wheel differences, going to vert wheels would be a serious downgrade.

3isacharm 04-09-03 08:07 PM

icemark, do you know how much the infini IV wheels weigh, compared to the 'vert's 15" wheels?

Icemark 04-09-03 08:33 PM

well the old BBS brand of that style used to weigh around 16 lbs for the 16x7, I am sure the Infini version is pretty close to that.

3isacharm 04-09-03 08:40 PM

thanks. i guess it's really not worth the effort and money for the weight, only to be able to say you have infini wheels.
