Immobile 2nd gen: fried clutch?? Ideas needed!

Dang it!

Launched at 4K, car jumped upt to 20mph then WHUMP, motor is disconnected from the rear wheels. Something broke. This is the first & only time I’d ever tried a hard launch!

Before I open it up, could it be anything other than the clutch?

Pedal feels normal, engine is normal, driveshaft is OK. When in gear the car will go 1-2mph, no more. So there is a teeny bit of power coming from engine to rear wheels..

I have a hard time believing the clutch is fried, it’s rated for 300-350hp, the car is maybe 200hp on a good day.

Ideas? Where to start? I’ve not even put it up in the air yet., tied up at work. Maybe broke axle?

Car is a S5 n/a with recent motor, Centerforce clutch, suspension, not beat on, bought it this spring from a forum member.

Gimme some pointers! tonight I figure out how to move it into the garage.

It sounds like you snapped an axle. Just slide under the back of the car and try to move the axle with your hand. It should not move at all. It's a simple fix.

man - I thought the fc diff/axles were good for 400+hp. find out tonight...

Not the n/a

and here I though the diff/axle were the least of my worries. at least axle replacement is a lot cheaper & easier than clutch.

bad diff!!

the diff is shot! axles are OK.

See if below logic is OK:
I put the butt of the car up in the air.
Spin either wheel, other wheel stays put.
Spin the driveshaft by hand, only one wheel turns (drivers side)
Engage clutch to lock triveshaft, driveshaft won't spin by hand, so clutch is OK. Yay!
so the diff itself or diff output is shot. I was not looking forward to diggin into a clutch.

What are my options to repair? this is a 1990 GTUs, 4.3 ratio limited slip I believe. I'll likely drop the diff & investiagte this weekend.

Any chance the gearset itself is OK and an output spline is shot?

Will know more and post pics later this week. Happy turkey-eatin, ya'll
