I'm in need of your opinions!
 

Hey all, my names Ben. I've actually been on this forum for a while now.. but for whatever reason, I never made myself an account because I never really had anything to say, that in combination with my standard 15 year old laziness aha.:lol2:

So anyhows, like I said, I'm fifteen years old, and, all of my friends think I'm silly for wanting to buy a car, but, none of them know the love that I have for the FC. I've wanted to own a 7, since before I was 7. So, the opportunity for me to own one has just sprang itself upon me. A 1986 FC, the upside, its pretty local, about 45 minute drive to go check it out, the down side, its not in the best shape =\

Basically, its a mess, and I think it needs a new battery. The good part is, I'm probably going to be able to pick her up for about five hundred, which is a Miracle in disguise seeing as my funds are pretty non existent at the time being.

So, I'm Fifteen, I'm in love with the FC, and, this may be my only chance to get ahold of one. I'll have my Drivers permit in january, so, this would be the car I learn to drive on. visually, it obviously needs a whole lot of work, both interior and exterior, and I'm eventually going to want to work on the mechanical aspect of the car as well. Do you guys think its worth it? What am I getting myself into here with this car? Moneywise, how much do you think its gonna cost me to get it into shape? This car would be my project, I'd be willing to invest alot of time into her.

This is my first post..and, seeing as I may very well be joining into the FC community now, it deffinately won't be my last. You guys all have alot more experience then I do.. and, I know I can learn alot from you all. What do you guys think about this car? Thanks in advanced,

I'm kidding, that exactly what my car looked like when I bought it (in fact it still kind of does...) Does it run? Mileage? It doesn't look too shabby though. And the cost of getting it into shape depends wholly on what you want to do. Check for rust on it as well, looks like a bit on the passenger fender you'll wana make sure it's not extensive otherwise it won't be worth it, what the point of investing in a car that's crumbling apart around you?

its got 136,890 miles on itttt.

I also can't tell for the life of me, and, since it doesn't say in the description, is this the N/A engine or the turbo version? Sorry for silly questions aha.

i guess no car is a bad buy if you have good mechanical knowledge, money, and time to devot to the car. this car will need a lot of tlc. tlc takes money. i hope you have a job after school. i wont discourage you from buying the car, as you can learn a lot about a car by working on it yourself. the resources are here to help you with this. that's what we're here for. heck you can even download a copy of the fsm. if the3 car is mechanically good, it looks as if the worst you'll have to contend with is the rust. you may want to go and check the car out before you bid on or buy it. do a compresion check. check the coolant. find out whats wrong with it. take it for a drive, make sure you like the car.

n/a, it's a base model meaning, obviously skinny 4-lug wheels and 1 piston caliper brakes all around, just to give you an idea every other model came with 4-piston up front iirc

It's NA and I'd pass. I've seen cleaner bodies go for 500 bux. What bothers me the most is the cancerous rust. I think you should wait, save a lil more and then get one.

Seriously, PASS, I wouldn't buy it.

notice how the engine bay still has BLACK on the plastic pieces? that is also another thing I didn't like. Almost as if there was a water issue under there.

Hmn. I guess i'm just gonna have to wait then..The exterior of the car wouldn't be that much of a problem, the rust and all, I was planning on replacing the fenders and the front and back bumpers. But.. if the cars engine is the N/A one, I guess I should probably wait until I can find one of the others, because if I'm gonna put alot of work, time, and money into it, I want it to be worthwhile at the end.

And now, the search for an Rx7 within a reasonable distance at a price a 15 year old can handle continues.. :wallbash:

just be sure not to make a rash decision and buy it anyway without thoroughly researching it, I know you want a car and you can't wait to get an FC but don't let that cloud your better judgment. It happened to me but I lucked out there's no telling what issues will arise once you take it home

edit: nothing wrong with the n/a it's a great stepping stone into 7's it'll teach you a lot...like an appreciation for power...and torque...

patience is the key. Don't forget to save and while you're here read the first three pages of the second gen section. Poke your head into some of the threads (NO T THE BODY KIT/WING/RIM/COSMETIC threads though) so you can be famiiar with any and all possible isues you will face with a 17+ year old car.

I love pop up lights got lucky, I didn't. so just wait.

Lets say I could pick this car up for $200... do you guys think its a lost cause? =\

not a lost cause, just don't expect to get laid until you're in your mid 20s.

this 7 will require lots of money over time, which means you won't buy things for yourself, which means you won't be appealing to the ladies, which means you can't go out with them, and even if you did con one into going out with you, you wouldn't be able to pay for her meal which in turn means she won't put out which means you wasted 200 bux.

Stick with your decision and keep searching for another FC!
By the looks of it, you'll probaby be spending A LOT of money fixing this one up.
It might be tempting to run out and buy the first 7 you can get your hands on but there are much better deals out there if you can wait and spend just a bit more.

i love rx7s but i would not encourage you to buy that car just like one guy said save some more money you'll find a better one. be patient daniel son. :)

that car looks like its been beat, and uncared for all its life, however, if you can pick up that car for 2 bills, you can make that money back + profit(mabey a few hundred), if you part it out assuming the motor could pass a compression test, and you can wait long enough for someone to need those parts, it would be a good learning experance to dissassemble the whole car to figure out how it works.

but thats only if you can get it for 200, and not damage anything when you part it out.

I would NOT recommend a turbo for your first car. It WILL get you in trouble with the law and/or telephone poles and things of that nature. I know they aren't fast out of the box, but it is enough power to be dangerous in the hands of inexperience (RWD+LSD+Turbo is never a good combination for someone who doesn't know what they're doing).

Just an (experienced) suggestion.
