hey i just did the throtle body mod and did a little porting had some trouble with the trotle cable but got that sorted out now much better power and throtle responce and i'm getting about 320 to a tank! and i'm still on it ALL the time b4 i would only get about 17-18 to the gallon now it's about 21-22 city and highway i count them together cause come on you never just dirve on the highway or in the city. any way just thought i'd share my newfound wealth cause with the money i'll save i can get that cat back.

How did you end up fixing the throtle cable?

blu_gxl 04-05-02 11:49 AM

dude i went to school i go to a mechanic trade school. which is lucky well the cable i though was the secondary's was just the cc but still it was not tight so we just shimed the cable with some longer bolts and flat washers still needs on more washer but it's great still when i get the last one in it'll be much better. it's only a temporary fix i still need a new throttle cable this one is streached, but all is well in my world now

Blue GXL...thats very good. My 7 before it blew up..N/A 89GXL was getting 21 mixed. Now it gets 17 with bad injectors. Just put some new ones in so I should get around the same again.

Stock MPG was 17/25

rico05 04-05-02 01:19 PM

I get 200 miles/tank. I need a new O2 sensor badly!!!!

Check allignment and tire pressure as well.

Being only 3-4psi low can affect gas mileage by as much as 10-15%!!!!

rico05 04-05-02 01:41 PM

I did notice that my tires are low. I never knew that could make a difference!!! Any other things to check?

Alignment is big:

Car & Driver reported in their long-term wrap-up of the Honda Insight that a change from 0deg toe to .25" toe-in reduced fuel economy by something like 6-7mpg...

But it also increased highway stability and turn-in response, so it's always a trade-off.

But in general, the things that affect fuel economy are:

- how clean is the air filter
- how clean is the fuel filter
- clean and properly gapped spark plugs
- age of plug wires (resistance)
- age of O2 sensor
- exhaust restrictions (e.g., a clogged pre-cat or main cat will HURT power and fuel economy)
- tire pressure 32psi is pertty standard for cars
- heavy right foot??? :p:

and to a lesser extent, the viscosity of you motor oil.

I'm with rico, If i'm lucky I can get 220 mile before compelety empty

rico05 04-05-02 02:17 PM

Check sig for emissions and exhaust. I have a REALLY heavy right foot, but I have tried to cool off on that, but it really makes little difference. New plugs, new wires, and an old O2 sensor, so I guess it is the culprit!!
