I'm about to buy brake rotors for my daily driver. Is slotted & drilled overkill?
 

I need new rear rotors yesterday, and I found a pair of Bradi's for $80. That price is a plain blank; no drilling, no slotting. sure that stuff looks cool, but it costs extra money and I wonder if it really affects the performance on the street. does anyone have real info on this subject?

I am beginning to think that x-drilling and slotting is all hype. am I wrong? I am planning to just go with the blank Bradis.

oh and btw, anyone have experience buying from performancerotors.com?

ok, maybe I'm paranoid, but right before I clicked "confirm order" on their site, I read the Terms of Purchase. Line 1 seemed a tad bit interesting:

"All prices, materials, design, and specifications are subject to change without notice."

That necissarily means that they could choose to make my brake rotors out of - oh I dunno - banana peels, without notice, and I would be SOL by the Terms of Purchase.

does that line seem sketchy to anyone else? I mean sure, they probably wouldn't make my rotors out of banana peels, but it specificaly states right there in plain english that they could if they wanted to.

Get standard Brembo rotors (better cast iron than Chinese stuff) with no holes or slots and be happy. The only cars that can really take advantage of cross drilled rotors have very large rotors to begin with. The Porsche GT3 I rode in at PIR last year comes to mind. You need all the rotor mass you have. You will just wear out drilled rotors fater than stockers. And if you get them hot enough you'll probably crack them. Better pads are a much wiser investment than cross drilled rotors.

I currently have a set of drilled and slotted rotors on a street car.
I would recomend to anyone, to NOT get these types of rotors for a street car. Just stick to a good quality smooth rotor.

The benefits of the slotted/drilled rotors are not nearly enough to outweigh the detriments of cracking, warping, and extra expense associated with these rotors. This is in addition to the fact that you cannot get these rotors cut at a regular place as they will not touch anything that is not flat. I had a real hard time fining a shop to cut my rotors.

Its just not worth it. The only reason to get them is for bling. Im not into that, but if you are, then go for it. Just be aware, that you will not see a performance increase, and WILL see an increase in expense.

just ordered the Brembo rears from NOPI (although I thought Brembo didn't make rears for our cars.. .maybe they'll ship me Bradis?)

anyway, somebody called me like, 10 minutes after I placed the order, to confirm my billing address. I was like "WTH, I just placed the order!"

he said he had some trouble with my address but he'll "Send 'em anyway, should be there by teusday"

Nopi is a good online vendor with great communication and good service. I thought Brembo didn't make rear rotors either, but when I ordered from Nopi, I did indeed get Brembo-made rear vented rotors.

I say that if you want to improve performance on a daily driver, go for quality. Quality parts, best fluid you can get, etc. I went with Hawk HPS pads, Brembo OEM rotors, Motul 600 DOT 5.1 synthetic fluid, speedbleeders, new OEM brake hoses, master cylinder (mine had slime in it), and it works very well.

i got my rear brembo's from tirerack.com. they seriously called like no more than 2 minutes after my order had been placed to tell me that its a special order (told me it would be something like 2-5 weeks, didnt take more than a week till i got it) and they wanted to make sure thats its ok to go head and continue the order.

I have never had even a hint of bad service from NOPI. Someone here put me onto them and since then I order everthing I can from them.
