ilum fuse keeps blowing...

Does anybody know where the ground is associated with this fuse? Its blow 3x now... I even got harassed by a policeman because my tail lights werent working properly.

try to change your plastic cover that consists all the switches for the lights and wipers. those relays cause problems on most 2nd gens.

just go to the junk yard and take one off from there.

hope that solves your problem....:)

have you installed anything electrical in the car recently?

rx78788 03-17-04 11:33 PM

that same thing happened to me, about 2 days ago. i just recently put in a new stereo, and i did not insulate the factory ground. so either you have a short, or you just put something in your car that involve wireing and you did not install it right.

DEZERTE 03-18-04 12:33 AM

i didnt install anything new, i pulled my dash, after i put it back in, this crap started happening.

Hmm... Couple of options here..

1. Consult the wiring tab, and trace back all the wires that are associated with this fuse.

2. Pull all your work back out and look for a loose/bare wire.

3. (not recommended, but last ditch), hardwire the fuse position, look for the smoke. smoke = short...:)

IIRC, that fuse deals fairly exclusively with the illumination of the dash, so it cant be too hard to isolate.

Well the day it frist blew, there was a little bit of smoke coming out from the left side of my guage cluster, it was only a little bit, then it stopped. I will most likely pull the f'ing dash out and look for that shit, i was dreading that, but it looks like i gotta do it.

And one more thing, why is it bad to hardwire where the fuse was?

J-Rat 03-18-04 01:24 AM

Well, because if you definately have a short, and you hardwire the fuse, whatever is shorting will burn up and probably take more stuff with it.

Your probably safe with the ILLUM circut, but if that circut was anywhere near the ECU, you run the risk of nuking your brain box..

I would start looking in the area you saw smoke. Thats a pretty good indication you have a short there.

rx78788 03-18-04 03:46 AM

agian since you took the dash off, i'm allmost 100% sure you put somthing in wrong. follow J-Rat's advise and you should be alright
