Ignition questions.......

I have a '91 RX7 F.I. non turbo. I changed the clutch master and slave cylinders this past weekend, as well as the battery and everything worked great. After taking the car for a test drive the car sat in the driveway overnight and the next morning my wife moved the car. Once my daughter got in that evening to start it, it wouldn't start. It turned over, but it seemed as though it wasn't getting any fire. I was getting a very rich smelling exhaust as well as some unusual smoke out of the tail pipe. I checked ohm readings on the leading and trailing coils as well as the crank angle sensor. All three coils and the angle sensor checked out fine. We even tried to push start it and that didn't work. I am thinking either it is the ignitors or maybe a timing chain/belt issue. I arced the plugs also and they are all firing. I am looking for some advice on what else to look at. I do not know how to check the ignitors, so if the consensus is that it might be a problem there, I need some advice on how to make the check. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.

Your car is just flooded.

There is a de-flooding proceedure listed in the Frequently asked questions/ FAQ for FC sticky thread found at the top of this section.

Probably flooded. The S5 cars have a *feature*. This feature is that if you hold your gas pedal down to the floor, the fuel pump will be cut off while you spin the starter and hopefully unflood the engine. Give it a try.

Or, you might have a blown ENGINE fuse in the interior fuse box. See if you have 12vdc on the small, white, two socket plug at the Lead coil assy. You should have 12v on the black/yellow wire. If you do, then the ENGINE fuse is good and the Main Relay is good. IF so, try the foot to the floor technique.

And while I'm here jabbering, take a look at the RX-8 forum that is online. Look at ALLLLLLL the FLOODING problems listed on that site. Makes one think there's a FLAW in the engine/ecu/engineering of the Mazda RX-7.
