Ignition Breakdown
 

Hi everyone,

So after taking my S5 FC to the dyno it became apparent that the is having ignition breakdown at high rpms. Once the car gets to 8k rpm the CEL light flashes on the idiot cluster, weirdly enough the shift buzzer doesn't go off. The spark plugs on this car don't have more than 6k miles (running stock FD spark plugs per Racing Beat's recommendation). I'm also using the Racing Beat Ultra wires. Does anyone have any idea why I have ignition breakdown right when I get to 8k rpm?

Background on the motor. S5 13b NA. Street ported with Turbo 2 exhaust sleeves. Pineapple 6 port inserts (not working right now because of the VDI not being activated). Emissions block off plate. Stock intake with K&N Filter. Baffle plate, RB SS oil cooler lines.

For starters, I would suggest that you change your plugs and fuel filter. Plugs in these cars don't have a long lifespan. I run the NGK platinum plugs in my N/A S5 FC. I change mine about once a year or every 10k-12k miles, and at that point they've seen better days. Also, check your wires. For years, I used to run Magnecor KV85 (8.5mm) wires. Had too many disappointments with them. Too high resistance and now the price is outrageous. I've switched to NGK wires, which are much better. My next replacement set will be Taylor ThunderVolt 8.2 wires.

So I just changed the fuel filter less than 4k miles ago. The wires are still new from Racing Beat. I'll look into changing out the spark plugs again.

What about the fuel pump sock?

I replaced the sock as well.
