If you personally did your own rebuild...
What did you replace?
What was your mileage at disassembly? What did the rebuild cost? |
its like any engine rebuild. Measure stuff out and make sure its in spec. If not, get it machined if possible or replace the part.
If everything in your engine is good, buy a rebuild kit, They range about 800+, maybe a little less if your lucky. Like any engine rebuild, you have a lot of things to consdier at this point, porting, special internals and seals, special oiling system, coatings. It can get real pricey if you want |
im currently doing my own on a rotary after doing one on a VW motor for my parents, and its really the same thing except for cost(rotary being far more).
Just take apart, labeling what you are gonna keep. Then you buy a rebuild kit, and set up a price range you want to spend on extras. then put it back together making sure everything is up to spec. Personally, im looking at porting, but if you do it yourself, like when you do your rebuild, you save money :) |
Replaced every single freakin' part except for the "big" internals.
All Mazda OEM that came out to like almost $2,000... Rebuild completed at around 90k miles...due to a PD fire, and the engine was running fine at the time. The car has 122k miles on it now. This was about 10 years ago. Yes, I only put on about 30k miles in 10 years. -Ted |

i just rebuilt my 89 n/a. it is actually going to be running within 24hrs. PR sleeve inserts, i grinded a large streetport, and opened up the exhaust ports and ground out the diffusers. did lots more but that is the heart of it. i needed a new e-shaft, rear rotor, and rear housings. i used rotaryresurrection.com for the used parts, and atkins for the rotor kit and the engine gaskets. new clutch/pp/flywheel new hoses belts etc. painted everything nice n perty. ~$2000 after all said and done. but like i said, i got a fidanza flywheel and cm300 clutch also.
guys. this is kinda urgent. i just put engine in car. mounted radiator and hoses. i filled it up w/ about a gallon and a half, then heard splashing. i looked under car and coolant was coming out from the transmission to rear iron hookup. any ideas guys? i wanted to be driving the car today. thanks |
