Idling woes

Ok so i recent bought an 87 N/A rx-7. im very new here and don't know much about these cars besides a basic idea as to how they work. i had to replace the radiator, battery, tps, ignotion coils/wires, sparkplugs, and starter switch when i got it. i finally got it started and it idles betweek 1500-2000 for about 6 seconds then idles down to nothing and shuts off. i have checked for vaccume leaks and have found none. i don't have the tools to check the tps or afm yet. any suggestions on what to do would be greaty appreciated.

Dig around on here, do a search, yuo'll find out. The FSM is available, along with several threads on the idle stuff.

This site has been the greatest thing to go along with the greatest car I've had (87GXL)

I've looked around on here and found alot of stuff on the TPS and AFM, along with checking for vaccume leaks. I don't have the tools to properly diagnose the TPS or AFM, but i did check for vaccume leaks, i found out im missing the 2nd nut holding on the air intake hoze to the throttle body, it seems to be pretty tight against it from the 1 nut left, but it could cause a leak i guess, would that vause my car to shut off after a few seconds on running?

Problems with non-metered air--i.e., air entering the combustion chamber that is bypassing the AFM on the intake pipe--can cause the problem. Find out the size of the nut and install one. The nut will be metric threads, so the easiest, but most expensive, way would be to get one from a Mazda dealer. As an alternative, take the existing nut to a hardware store and find a metric bolt that smoothly and fully screws into the nut. Then buy a nut of that size.

While you're at it, verify that the connector is attached to the AFM.

Ok so i have 1 last question. Would having low but not empty gas tank keep it from running long? Maybe a weak fuel pump or something else that has to do with that?
