Idle problems and stalling

I have an 88 NA, and have been having some problems with it. Basically, the idle is jacked up, it'll go from about 300 RPMs to about 1500 RPMS unless I keep my foot on the gas keeping it at a higher. And also when I go to take off it stalls out as soon as I let go of the clutch. If anyone has any ideas what the prob. may be Id apprcaite their input. THNAKS!

Ok the firs thing you should look for is a vacume leak. the second is to check if your TPS is not set properly. The stalling is probably a vaccume leak. I had a major leak some months ago and the car would turn on then idle for like 5 sec then die. I had forgoten to tighten the black plastic peice that connects to the Throttle body. Dumb me.:)

OK, i removed all the connections for the intake and reinstalled them to make sure there was no vacuum leaks and I found none. Im a pretty big noob at this stuff. How would i go about checking the TPS?

the TPS=Throttle position sensor is on the TB it is a little black thing and you need a Multimeter to check the voltage and resistance of it. there is a screw on the TB that adjusts the TPS.

ok the vaccume leaks can occure in many areas not just in the intake. there are many vaccume hoses all over the engine comparment and if you still have the old ones chances are some will leak.
