Idle problem
Okay, so I know this may have been gone over before, but when you search you just find topics saying to search, so it's kind of pointless.
Alright, I go out in the morning, start my car, let it warm up, I drive it. I park somewhere, say Fred Meyer, or Safeway, go in - shop for 10-20 minutes, come back outside. My car is still semi-warmed up, and when I turn it on, the RPM's shoot up like normal, but when it goes back down - it goes so far that it dies, with it out of gear, and even if the clutch is engaged. I rev it up until the engine gets back to full warmth, and then it won't die on me. What might be the cause of this? |
Dunno, but mine did that sometimes unless I tapped the throttle. So my fix was just to get into the habit of tapping the throttle at startup.

Yeah, I tape it until it keeps a steady idle, but it wasn't doing this until a week or so ago, any solutions?
A while back when I replaced a few fuel and coolant lines, I forgot to connect the 'air intake temp sensor' or so I was told, and my car did sort of the same thing. I forget if it happend when it was dead cold or warmed up... Check around the hood for something that could have came off like any electrical connectors or a vaccum hose.
Mine has done that a couple times, when it cools just the right amount. If I rev it once or twice, it's back to normal. So... I'd like to know what it is too.
So we have a chronic problem here - any admin's or Aaron's that wanna pitch in and help us out? haha
Any solutions?
Looks like everyone has an issue with their idle. Mine is too random and erratic to post about.
It has been happening to me as well... damn.
