identifying alternator
hi everyone, i need to replace my alternator as its shot. i had a spare one that i had ordered a while back and few things are different from my bad one. like the plug seems to be behind the alternator rather than on top.
well, here's my bad one http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...cture008-3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...cture002-3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...cture001-4.jpg and then the spare one http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...cture009-3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...cture005-3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...cture004-2.jpg anyone happen to know if they are S5 alts? |
I'm a computer tech., not a mechanic. but i do love my '88 rx7. anyways, if the plugs match on both alternators, i don't see why it would matter where on the device the plug is.

Shot in the dark, but it says 80amp. S4's run 70amp alts. My S5 FSM also shows the plug in the back.
|
Both of my S5's have the plug on top.
|
ya s4's arent 80 amp. so they must be s5's... maybe the plugs are different cus its imported from japan..
just plug it in, see what happens, go big or go home..... |
heh, i guess i shoulda figured they were s5 alts from that sticker...i guess the plug location threw me off.

The 350 is the series five non turbo. The 370 is the series five turbo.
The location of the output wire on the alt is different so it won't hit the intercooler and cause a fouling condition and short out the system. Either will work as long as you make sure the output terminal does not hit the intercooler. Plugs are the same. SunCoast makes a universal alt for the series five that has a piggyback harness from the alt jack to the harness plug. Find SunCoast on Carparts.com |
