I want back Seat

Has anyone put a back seat in their FC? It would nice to have one. I was wondering if their might be a kit or something or if someone has fabricated something. If you've done it how much room does it have?

Speed_Machine 04-30-04 05:41 PM

just buy a back seat from someone who has one. but theyre worhtless because theres not even enough room for a small child to sit in them

slomo85 04-30-04 07:16 PM

But I want one anyways. Do you think one pearson could make use of it sideways?

mickmania 04-30-04 07:21 PM

Dont put one it. I HATE IT. it jus add weight on ur car and very uselesssssss. U will get annoyed of it. I threw mine out the second day i got the car. Cause no one can sit back there

dreamnshadow 04-30-04 07:22 PM

I have a 2+2. My 4 year old daughter is too big to sit behind me. Great place to toss your helmet though...

I must be the lucky one then, I have a short petite wife at 5'2" and an 8 yr old son that fits very comfortable back there when the wife has her seat up . It is more like a 2+1 though unless all occupants are less than 6' in length .

imsplatter 05-01-04 03:18 AM

I just got rid of my 86 2+2, the seats are pretty much useless, you can't fit anyone back there, just a waste of good storage space.

drago86 05-01-04 04:04 AM

there really not that heavy, the top part is the heaviest, but its not bad, heavier then bins though.. ive had 2 people back there before,.. of couse they were small and boyfriend and girliirned,.. i use mine quite frequently actually...

totallimmortal 05-01-04 06:24 AM

Mine came with them in and i kept em for a bit thinkin it would be nice to have 4 seats, but after not using em much i took em out, later i put em back in and found thatn no1 i knew could fit back there with any1 I knew sittin up front, to me they are pointless, my 100 lb lil sister can't even fit

Roy James 05-01-04 08:39 AM

Exactly what is the point of these seats anyways? You seriously can't put jack ass back there. I had a red set and tried to sit back there, not to mention there wasnt any leg room, but the place for your ass was about half of what I need (I'm well under 200lbs). Sorry just had to bitch about something.

i've had 2 people lay down in the hatch area before. Waffler House run. So i figure I don't need rear seats. :p

Would they fit a baby seat safely? My wife is nagging me about getting a FC because there's no room for one. :D

If it would work, I could always buy a set, throw it in the rafters and use it when it becomes necessary. :D

Got another good question related to 'em... How's the view over the top of those suckers? They don't look like they create any bigger of a blind spot then the FCs already have. :D

Actually, they seem like theyre designed specifically for baby seats because on how they dip inward. So, yes, i think theyre perfect for baby seats. Oh, and they dont restrict your view at all

Does anyone wanna trade they're storge bids with me?. I have a rear carpet but no bids, is a good idea for anyone that wants to hide they're system or something?.

i could fit more people without back seats in the hatch, but had to drive very carefully. i took three girls from tucson to phoenix...ok not smart but the two in the back fell asleep and said it was comfy back there.

Hey Everyone,
Before answering the Lozerkid's question let me say, I've had FCs with both "back seat" and with the storage bins.
I much prefer the seat. Yeah, you can't really put anyone older than 6 in 'em, but it's very convenient to have a place to put your jacket, brief case, computer bag, etc without having it slide all over the place. Also, with the seat up, the space behind becomes a much more convenient place for groceries, again, without having them slide all over.
Believe me, having had both for several years each, the seat is great. We just have to call it something else besides a "seat", just to be accurate.

To my point. I have an '87 TII which I bought without the seat. It needed work, so got parked. In the mean time I found an '88 with leather interior and back seat. I drove it for some time, then blew the engine.

Long story short, I moved the interior from the '88 to the TII and now have a TII (more fun to drive here in the mountains) with a leather interior and back seat.

My suggestion, find a 2+2 in a salvage yard and buy the seats. The back seat comes out in just a few minutes (when you know how) and I expect you could probably get it for a reasonable price.

If you'd like some photo's and how-to, I'd be happy to provide. Just drop me a note, and I'll whip something up.

Hey,
I put one in my TII. It's easy and I like having the space. Yeah, you're not going to put a person over 5years old in it, but it's very useful for a place to put stuff. Briefcase, computer bag. Also, that's where my dog rides and she's very comfortable.
You can take the seat out of a wreck in about an hour and it'll drop right in. I have pix if you can use them.
