i own a first gen but helping a guy with a second gen

hehe ok.....to make a long story short i chased a secong gen down on my speedy golf cart (im a technician for apartments) and we got to talking....now....he said he needed to have a tune up but doesnt trust the mechanics around here to work on his car....can somebody give me the downlow on how to tune up a second gen?

CosmicButtHairs 02-05-02 08:24 PM

Replace Spark Plugs, Distributor Caps, Rotor, Spark Plug Wires, Massaging Oil, Porn.........haha just kidding.
Just take the first 4 things I said.

rx-7girl 02-05-02 08:27 PM

thats it? what abou tthe belts and shit? and are the spark plugs on the sec gen the same place on the first gen? (right on the left panel of the engine)

Flobb 02-05-02 08:31 PM

On drivers side. Ngk Bur7eq's for leading Bur9eq's for trailing. Don't forget the anti-seize goo.
I'm sure you know that, I just like using the word GOO

CosmicButtHairs 02-05-02 08:32 PM

oh yeah you could do that too. replace the belts, fool around with the idle screw, top off all fluids and replace the fuel filter, air etc etc.
I think the 1st gen and 2nd gen are the same in terms of spark plug location. Its on the driver side.

If you invest into a Haynes Manual, it will tell you all the tune up procedures and how to do them in a breeze. Have fun.

where's that timing belt? Hey there's no distributor. What's this box with chips & wires coming out of it? :D :D

One of the good things about computer control vs mechanical.

Ryde _Or_Die 02-05-02 10:04 PM

Ya, what distributor cap?

CosmicButtHairs 02-05-02 11:13 PM

CosmicButtHairs 02-05-02 11:15 PM

Do the ATF flush too!

VashtheStampede 02-06-02 12:30 AM

you can still adjust the timing by turning the CAS. you should bridge the initial set jumper though

Josepi 02-06-02 07:18 AM

Keep it simple,

Plugs
Wires
Belts
Filters (Air/Fuel)
Oil change/filter

Then if he wants more (and will pay you ;))

Flush rad
New top and bottom rad hoses
Replace worn coolant hoses

If he's impressed (and still has $$)

Check vacuum system with hand pump+gauge
Replace vacuum hoses
Check for operation of solenoids/valves
Replace shifter bushings if shifter is sloppy

I could go on and on....
