i need some advice

so i made up my mind. i think i'm gonna stick with the rotary and not do the V8 swap. its too complicated and i'm lazy. plus the rotary is a beast. so now the question is...does anyone have any pointers for me of a cheap and eay way to get the best out of my rotary. i wanna make it faster and just get it running smoother. its kinda shakey now and sometimes it wont start. it just cranks over and over. i really have no idea whats wrong with it. its getting plenty of gas and spark so i'm lost. other times it runs great but then overheats after a while. does anyone know how to fix these problems and what can i do to amke my car faster? i really don't know much about rotaries..

That question has so many different answers I doubt that anyone will really answer. You may wish to refine it more.

alright well first of all i jsut wanna get it running. i was driving around and it kept stalling out and it was like overheating and shit. so i pulled over and let it cool down for a while. it took a few hours to finally cool down. i got it started again but it only went a few feet and stalled again and the same shit would happen. it wouldn't start up with out a fight. i got it towed to a friends house and when i finally went to pick it up i got it running. it was shaking a lot though and it ran for about a minute and then stalled and wont start back up. it cranks over but wont start. and i checked and its getting gas and spark. so i'm baffled. the fluids were low. tranny fluid and oil that is. so i topped those off and still didn't change anything. cranks but still a no go. i know there could be many reasons why this is happening but maybe someone has had similar problems and might know what i should do first. i don't really have a lot of money to take it into a shop and have it looked at. so i'm gonna have to make do with what i have. i thought it might've been that i didn't have gas but i actually pulled the fuel pump out and checked and theres plenty of gas and i even checked up front and its getting gas to the engine. so i thought maybe it was flooding out but i don't think it is. i'm really not sure where to go from there.

Ah man the idea of a paragraph eludes you doesn't it???

Okay lets start with the absolute basics. If the car is overheating (or has overheated) the motor may be toast, in any matter a compression check should be done before anything else.

Ok here is what happened to me, bought the car and it was driven about 15 miles (had a hard time cranking to start with) "exhaust system overheat" wouldnt crank back up, for the next 2 days we tried everything even popping the clutch would not stay cranked. Towed it in, mech put in new plugs and fired right up but few seconds later, shut off, plugs filled with gas. Next day drove it to a friends house, much hesitation and backfiring, but she was runnin, the cats were clogged so we gutted em till new ehxaust gets here, now she is purrin like a kitten but have run into other problems, the car has been sitting for a year so needs some tlc, seal on tranny needs to be replaced, throttle cable too long, choke not working properly, sun roof must be off track, yada yada yada. But I am starting to have a love affair with this car and am determined to get her right. Just hope the motor lasts a while!
