i have everything required to run but STILL isnt

hey all

so far my FC has been out of comission for a while and when i bought it it didnt run and still doesnt. i have spark, i have compression (i dont know how much tho) and i have fuel. and it turns over just fine and just keeps turning and turning and turning. and i have NO idea where to go next my CAS measured ok with the ohms and my ignition module is fine andim just stumped is it a timing problem? an electronic problem or an internal problem (blown rotor?)

any help would be awesome

just because your ignition is trying to fire the spark plugs doesn't mean that you have spark.

Pull all 4 spark plugs. Remove the fuse in the box in the engine bay closest to the engine "EGI" i think it reads. Then crank your car over for 10 second intervals 5 or so times. It will spit fuel vapor out so make sure you hood is closed.

Now that you've gotten the still fuel out, put in new spark plugs. put the fuse back in, and it should start.

Have you read all of the inputs out at the ECU with the key on, to see if anything's wrong there?

Could be timing- does she sound like she wants to start, just doesn't?
Have you lined up everything and restabbed the CAS?

How can you state that you have compression in one sentence, then wonder if you have a blown rotor in another? :)

OK, well i have spark at all 4 plugs ive taken them out and ive pulled the EGI fuse numerous times and tried de-flooding it and its only made one "POP" noise and thats all ive gotten outta her. and my reference marks on my pulleys are non existant so i have NO idea if shes timed right or not. so how can i find out if my timing is right or how do i set a new mark and sure its right?

are there marks on the top of the pulley? what about the FRONT? check both...

i havent checked on the front because i thought it would be pretty redundant to put the mark on the fron where you cant see it and probably not line up correctly

i would also like to know this. I tried setting the timing but i have no marks either anybody know how?

powrdby13B 09-26-04 07:33 PM

seriously... thats how i set my timing a while back... if you put the spark plug on the CAS it actually works LoL

WAYNE88N/A 09-26-04 07:34 PM

They might be covered up with gunk- take some acetone (or similar) and a rag, and clean the back "rim" of the pulley where the marks would be. I discovered that I actually had red & yellow marks from the factory on there when I cleaned mine up during the rebuild, lol...

The marks are bare scratches. They are on the back of the pulley, the part closest to the stationary timing mark. That fixed pointer thing. On a old car the marks are barely visible. You will not find any color in them. Just two scratches about an inch apart from each other

there you go, 90 degrees CCW from the keyway :D

capn 09-26-04 08:45 PM

OK so the red mark is for leading one? or trailing two? what do the marks represent?

capn 09-26-04 09:33 PM

OK OKOK so this is what i tried, i manually cranked the engine with the leading and trailing plugs out on rotor 1 and i rotated the engine and i got a spark WAY off the mark so i was like ok so timing is off, i loosend the CAS nut and moved it clock wise still didnt get any better maybe was worse. and then i turned it fully counter-clock-wise and it still didnt help, so do i need to take the CAS out and do something with it or what? and i just want her to make a popping noise like it wants to come alive. so what does it sound like folks?

WAYNE88N/A 09-26-04 09:36 PM

Dude, did you find your marks???

Yellow is leading- line that mark up with the pointer on the front cover...

Now take the CAS out, and line up the arrow with the little dot thingy near the gear. Stab it back in, taking care not to let it turn (too much). You should be able to start her well enough like that until you can fine tune the timing with a light...

yes i found my marks, ok so let me get this straight i have the pointer aligned with the yellow mark. then i remove the CAS completely and i align an arrow near the base of the gear on the CAS with a dot thingy? is that dot thingy the little dowel that holds the gear on or is it a stamped mark on the gear?
