I disassembled my Windsheild Wiper Motor - I have a simple question
 

That was the last overlooked part In the Engine Bay that needed to be glassbeaded. Because I have a fetish for taking things apart and putting them back together, I wanted to make sure that I didn't damage It or assemble It Incorrectly prior to Installation. My car Is In pieces right now as I'm putting It back together. So I can't exactly test It as of now.

I removed the 2 screws retaining the "bell housing" from the rest of the assembly. It's when I put It back together, I had to reinstall the 3 springs that push the magnets to the center spindle. It seems that the magnets have to be making contact at all times.

Anyway, I wanted to ask If you've checked to see the lever at the back of It (has a ball which connects to the cup of the wipers) motor moves freely. I admit I haven't checked before I took It apart but It seems pretty tight. Does It move freely? Anyone disassemble a wiper motor before?

I've never disassembled one but I've taken mine off, and the rear crank arm seemed pretty stiff.

I appreciate the response 88IntegraLS. I know, It's not a typical question that everyone can take a poke on. Although I am 100% sure I re-Installed It correctly, I want to be sure.

I'll rephrase the question again, just In case. :) If the Motor Is off the car - when grabbing the "bellhousing" with one hand, and the lever found at the rear of the assembly with your other hand, does the lever Itself move? Is It "locked"? It's when I attempt to move It, It doesn't move all that much.

If you were to do this when you removed the 2 screws to the "bell housing, the gear Inside extends past the housing pushing It out and lifting It off the assembly.

The working arm that connects to the wiper arms (via a ball joint) is pretty stiff, but can move.

I just pulled and replaced mine. A C clamp made the reconnecting of that ball joint much easier.

You can see the new motor in the upper left in this picture and the reason the old one didn't work.

I took mine off about a month ago while disassembling my engine bay..

I KNOW it doesn't move freely or else I would have sat there staring at my engine bay spinning it around while thinking of what to take apart next..

As far as I recollect it's very stiff but I'll double check when I go back to pick up parts and take them to the spray booth..

If you want to test it, you can check the wiring diagram, all you need is a 12V battery.
