I can't find anything on how to time my engine
 

I just rebuilt my engine, its back in the car and everything plugged up, The only thing is I can't figure out the timing on this thing :scratch:

Anyway, I would really like some good help, I know you have line the marks up with the timing pin sticking out of the motor... or something like that. Please help.

i dont mean to be a dick, but please look through the FAQ and fsm FIRST for any technical questions.
all of that is covered at least 3 times.

It's in the FSM, There are 1000 threads on it. You'll figure it out. :)

[Psst... Take the cover off the CAS and hold the piece in the center so it doesn't move when you're putting it back in...]

take the crank angle sensor out first then line the pulley on the second mark then line the mark on the crank angle sensor and put it in if u have any questions send me a pm....ill be more than happy to help

Just a question... can I mess something up in the engine even if the car didn't start?

Don't worry too much about it damaging it... unless its a turbo.
N/A's are beefy.
I managed to install mine about 90 degrees out and drove it for 10-15 miles.
No damage as far as I can tell.
I also had a s5 pulley on the engine but it had a s4 hub so the timing marks were off.

ok can someone explain this... I did the air-fuel-spark test. I have air, I have fuel, now it was time to check spark, Please be kind I feel like an idiot already... I took the leading wires off and cranked the car (-_-) everything was going fine untill a loud backfire came from my car (I MEAN LOUD) my buddy said that the wires arced :/

I put the wires back in feeling like a noob and tried to crank it, The starter was giving me issues, after a few tries i cranked but as soon as it did I heard a knock somewhere... could that detination have knocked my apex seal out? keep in mind this is my first rebuild...

To those who told me to search, thats not as easy as you may make it seem, this is a huge site. The information I attained from smoke took little of 5 mins.

You're searching wrong. Do an "Advanced Search" and then select the section of the forum you want to search. In this case it would've been the 2nd gen section. Then search for "Timing" or "CAS position".

I'm not trying to be a dick, but take the time to learn how to use the site. When you've been here for several years like most of us have and see the same threads multiple times a month, it get's annoying. It can also help you out by getting you an answer faster.

i got close a minute ago, (it was really flooded), cleaned the spark plugs. I really think I just need to mess with the timing at this point but any other suggestions would help thanks.

started it! now i really need to time it. it idles a little rough but when i touch the gas the car cuts off lol. I'm pretty sure I know what that is though

its 180 degrees out. do this:

take out the crank sensor............take out the bottom rear spark plug....................with a mirror and socket to fit the front eccentric shaft bolt, look in the spark plug hole with the mirror and line up an apex seal right above the middle of the plug hole...................now on the crank sensor line up the indented mark on the crank sensor gear with the alignment protrusion on the crank sensor shaft...............install the crank sensor with the cover off so you can see where the wings are sitting at................make sure they dont move.................you might have to turn the crank sensor 1/4" here and there to get it to seat.

now put the spark plug back in...........hook up plug wire...............connect crank sensor plug.............start it!!! when it starts, set the timing with a timing light
