I am getting my GTUs rear end

...this next week and want to know what my options are as far as the LSD. Should I do nothing, rebuild it, replace it, not really sure.
I am leaning towards doing nothing and just seeing. The donor car was drivin quite timidly so I am expecting it to be in good-great shape.
Give me some suggestions and let me know how much each would cost approx.
I'll throw in a pic of my car for good measure.

Just curious, what did you pay for it?

RarestRX 05-22-03 03:22 PM

Yo,

Jeremy, how many miles on it? I would just throw it in, do a big smokey burn-out and see if there is two black marks, or one!

Congrats, you're working your way to the GTUs spec!

*grin*

I paid 325 for the rear end and picked up the GTUs tranny for 175.
It had 80K on it and was driven by some older dude.

Hey rarest,
I am actually full GTUs spec except for the seats.
I think I got everything else.
btw, is your car runnin all right b/c I ran mid 15's with hardly an mods and on crappy tires. But for real tho who cares about 1/4 mile times. Ask those Ferraris I passed at Laguna Seca how much my 1/4 mile times matter. That would make them feel even more stupid.
ha ha!
peace

Don't get too happy about it:
There's an explanation why you can pass Ferraris at Laguna Seca...
Maybe you should ask those guys driving Ferraris at Laguna Seca why they aren't pushing their cars to the limit. They'll probably respond by telling you that they don't want to risk crashing their $100,000+ dollar fine automobiles. Then you can respond by saying, "I think it would be funner driving an RX-7 to the limit than driving a Ferrari half-ass around the track." Then they'll probably chuckle. Most of those guys just don't understand.

Peace!

Just dump that b***h in:) BTW do you still want me to help you install it?

Kevin's car is running good, the ET's can come down but it would take some more track time. I could probably get his car to low 15's but he would not like the way I would drive it :D.

double post :(

Would putting in 4.33 gears affect the gas mileage noticably? Cuz I am going to be putting those in with a LSD (maybe miata gears too) and wondered if it would make the mileage sh**ty with the lower gearing.

mazdaspeed7 05-22-03 04:07 PM

Ths S5 LSD's are viscuous, they dont wear out.

LSD wont affect gas mileage, and shorter gears doesnt have much of an effect. I had an FB tranny for a little while (.825 5th gear), and at 80 mph, I was just over 4000 rpm. My highway mileage(80-90 mph) is only about 2 mph higher now that Im back to the stock tranny(.711 5th)

jeremy1 05-22-03 04:10 PM

Yeah, in all honesty the only reason I went around those Ferraris was b/c the drivers were shmucks=)

and Dana,
Yeah man! I am still game for not paying out the ass to have this installed. I'll let you know when I get the stuff.
You don't have a truck do you? I gotta pick up the tranny and the rear now and I am not sure it'll fit in my car =)

jeremy1 05-22-03 04:14 PM

Hey after we get this stuff in! Us bay arearers should go to the track and lay it down. I am shootin for 14's my car really feels strong for an n/a. I may eat crow for that whole 14's crack but heres for wishin.
