Hybrid Turbo ?'s
Well I've been searching for about an hour on the Majestic stage 3 hybrid. I've read nothin but good things but I have one question. I see that BNR supercars also offer the hybrid upgrade. I think the Majestic one is 650 and the BNR is 675. Anyone know what are the pros and cons of these two?
Thanx in advance for the help. |
My BNR stage2 T04 housing option is inthe mail back to me. So far dealing with BNR has been nothing short of greatness. Bryan has been keeping me updated every step of the way. Constant e-mail is a good thing when you have a lot of money floating out there. He was very helpful when I needed help deciding which setup best suited me. I obviously don't have the turbo back yet, but up to this point I'll say that BNR is a very professional business. I'll keep the forum updated when I get my toy from them. :D

That doesn't tell us anything unless we know the specs of the turbo.  It sounds like a V-trim or H-trim compressor upgrade.  Someone gonna volunteer to pop open their turbo and measure the compressor wheel? :)

I did the Majestic about a month ago. $585 + freight (bought all new gaskets from Mtrix - about $100)
Here's what they did: 1. milled turbine housing and installed a new machined Stage III wheel. 2. milled compressor housing and installed new TO4E-46 wheel. 3. installed used over-sized bearing housing with new bearings and new seals. 4. ported wastegate. 5. cleaned and bead-blasted unit. (looks new when you get it back) I now boost to 9.5psi in 3rd and 10.5psi in 4th. After I add Haltech F5 AIC, plumb a 720cc (fifth injector) and set a Profec B to 9psi low, 14psi high I should be at 320+bhp. I opted for this pkg. because it's considerably less expensive than all the stand-alone gear that requires constant tuning, Excellent customer service. I'm quite satisfied, in fact one of my local buddies just bought a series 5 turbo and manifold for his '87 and just got it back from Majestic as well. He called Majestic and asked them to pull my file and do to his exactly what they did to mine. The topend improvement is remarkeable, even at 9-10psi. I'm also going to a 3" exhaust and will probably add a blowoff valve. If you do a search for Majestic I have posted quite a bit of info a few weeks ago. |

What's the biggest hybrids can go? I think you have to shave some off the manifold to get anything bigger to fit, no?

300 at the wheels or motor? I can't believe only at the motor!

Hey Tim I can get you a stock turbo flange cast manifold
that will clear ANY SiZE upgrade :) $200 http://arctic.photoisland.com/sessio...10985649lg.jpg |
Originally posted by RETed That'll barely make 300hp... -Ted I've also been told by the guys at JapTrix that I'll be over 300 when they're thru. If I only reach 300 I'll still be happy because I didn't need a true TO4, or a E6K, or an exhaust manifold. 375 or 400 hp isn't necessary for me on this car. I'm waiting for a new RX-7 (if it's built) or will get a Supra TT and go nuts. The tech at Majestic informed me that this compressor wheel (no clip) in conjunction with the Stage III t/w will flow for 320+. In addition, the shop I visited that I'm taking my car to that runs a 10sec FC agrees. |
The turbo has the potential to make over 300hp, but you're still using the stock CHRA with the crappy carbon seal.  The carbon seal will crap it's pants anything over 15psi.  Sure, at 20psi, the compressor has the potential to pump out 350hp, but the turbo will start puking oil...

Most hybrids use the same center section so the maximum boost is about the same as the stock one 14 maybe 15 psi. Now with that said I've seen the stock one handle 1.5 bar without a problems as well so...
I have a stock turbo running about 12psi, the car is tuned fairly well and is putting down decent power for the stock system. I did a side by side 3rd gear pull on the highway with Chris Ng. Chris is running the pretty standard hybrid. My car got a bit of a jump, but then his pulled away hard. I mean really hard. It's hard to explain how well it pulled on mine, and it just kept pulling. I rode again in it today and it really pulls very hard all the way through redline the boost never drops off, it was alot of fun. It makes me feel good because I have the same turbo sitting on the floor of my room waiting for me to get my shit together and get it in. For the type of driving I do I'm not sure I would want much more power than what this hybrid puts down. All in all I am very impressed with what the hybrid does. |
OK, I don't know turbos; but am interested in learning since I want a stock upgrade.
Ted, the stock carbon seal wasn't replaced in FEDREX's upgrade in step 3. oversized bearing housings, new bearings and seals? Also, any idea how much extra $$ for ball bearing option if they are putting in new bearing housing etc. anyways? Thanks, Ian. |
Originally posted by FEDREX What's CHRA??? (compressor housing....?) Basically, it's the turbo minus the compressor and turbine housing.  This includes the center part and the shaft and two wheels. -Ted |

damn am I slow to posting to this or what? anyway I ran a turbonetics H3 compressor upgrade with 720's in the secondaries and I put 316.9Hp to the ground boosting less than 14 psi. There are better compressors than that out there, and with some mods on the exhaust side you can make more power.
Right now I am running the Knight Sports High Flow turbine boosting .88Kg. I have not dynoed it yet but the G-tech said Ihad 331 Hp. |

my upgraded stock turbo off a jspec engine. any comments anyone. car feels faster with it but i don't know specs besides it says garrett and a/r 60 |
although it is a true garrett turbine it looks to be about the same as a H3. It is hard to tell by a picture. If you could take it apart and maybe get a part number for the compressor then you could get a flow map for it to know hom much CFM it flows at what boost. Then let the tuning begin.

One of my friends has a 10th AE with J-Spec, dp, hi-flo cat and I walk him pretty easily. Another buddy has a pristine '87 TII 53k miles with RB 3" dp, presilencer, cb boosting 9-10 and I've pulled him too by a smidge and I've got a heavier system and heavier curb weight. We both have 9# flywheels. |
