Hybrid or to4

I need to choose between this 2 turbos both from turbonetics, its for my 88 t2 wich one do you think would be better
a) t3/t4 hybrid ball bearing center a/r.50 to 1.00

b) Full to4 60-1 no ball bearing

The thing is i can get the hybrid for $300 less than the to4,what do you think

turborotor 01-22-02 11:54 AM

How much more money do you want to spend. If you get a full t04 turbo, it will not bolt on to the stock manifold. YOu will have to invest on a manifold for the turbo.

C

PS If you are looking for a lot of power in the future soon, the I owuld go with the full t04 as long as you have the fuel for it or at least go haltech

relvinnian 01-22-02 11:55 AM

The hybrid you mentioned will run out of compressor. It's not big enough. Choose the 60-1, you won't regret it.

InfiniIIIREX 01-22-02 02:40 PM

I'd have to say the T04, Turbonetics makes a good one. The hybrid may leave you wanting more power.

if you need a manifold for the to4 i have an extra one laying around. I'll let it go for 200. definately go with the to4 it is a much better turbo, or just go all out and put on a t-66 like me

Yelow RX-7 01-22-02 06:09 PM

i thought the 60-1 was bigger?

jspecracer7 01-22-02 06:26 PM

t3/t4 has too small of an exhaust housing for rotary's. If you've got a stock exhaust port, using a .84 exhaust will provide you with enough of a powerband(about 4000 rpm's and up) vs. the 1.00 exhaust housing.

60-1 is definitely what you want, but what size compressor housing? a .50 compressor will get you enough airflow with a 60-1 running a .84 exhaust. You'll end up needing 850cc secondary's and you're injectors will have to be run at 80% duty cycle at .8 - 1.0 kilo boost, but you should have enough fuel. Or you can get 850cc all around just to be on the safe side.

...or you can get a t-04B wheel/backplate/housing and bolt it on the stock turbine. No need to get a manifold, the only problem you will have is getting more fuel. Rebic III or HKS AIC will do the trick.

Yelow RX-7 01-22-02 06:34 PM

what about a to4R?

jspecracer7 01-22-02 08:14 PM

t-04R will bolt on too, but how are you going to fit the compressor housing on when the lower intake manifold sits so close? Fitting problems suck...so it's best to get the whole turbine and manifold, because the manifold was made to offset the compressor from the lower intake manifold.

god dam what'd you do, go to turbo college???

Scott 89t2 01-22-02 10:51 PM

a full T04 setup will cost thousands... not only do you need the turbo you need new manifold, wastegate, new downpipe, new IC piping, and custom oil and water lines. you will also need alot more fuel as the t04 setup is good for over 400hp. if you're just looking for some more power with out spending too much stay with a hybrid. get yourself a 89-91 turbo and manifold and change the compresser side to a 60-1 with t04 housing. and port the hell out of the wastegate!!! and you'll have strong power for a lot less and not much work, you'll still need upgrading fueling. and a FMIC is highly recommanded.

jspecracer7 01-22-02 10:55 PM

nah...just seen a "FEW" turbo's and torn apart a few FC turbo's(I used to own a tII) so I know how they work...plus I've got a t-04S and that will bolt on to a stock fc exhaust housing/center housing....

oh, and I hang out with IGY and DRAGON and RUTT so they're always explaining what works with what and what is this, that, and the rather...like a 60-1 is a t-04S!

didn't I just write that? Do that, but it will have to be a t-04B...t-04E is too big a compressor housing.

If you hangout with those guys, then you probably know Justin with the white 180SX. Could you smack him in the back of his grape and tell him to send me my stuff? :)

jspecracer7 01-23-02 11:21 PM

How do you know Justin? Yeah, justin's a little fruitball, but he's cool. So whatcha buy from him?:D

Jerk_Racer 01-24-02 08:18 PM

Oh, I didn't buy anything from him. I just know him from when he first PCS'ed to Oki. I was his NCO until I got out in '97.
BTW, I'll be looking to go down the hi-flo turbo route in the near future. I bought a good kouki FC from Q-Power back in October. I make my way back over there about every year.
