Hybrid question
I've read up on the forums about hybrids.
I read T04B was the biggest you could go before it would start hitting the block. Just wondering if this turbo is the right kind to use before I purchase it. T04B TURBO CHARGER .96ar [TC-033] - $350.00 : GodSpeed Project, The Art of Performance If it will work, just lemme know please and thank you. |
Why not browse eBay or something similar for a used turbo?
|
Because for today and tomorrow GSP has a 50% of sale if you order through a certain employee.. $175 for a brand new turbo don't seem too bad to me. Especially since I can sell new parts I don't need easier.
This would work though right? |
I think it'll work, but it'd probably be cheaper to find the t04b wheel, compressor housing, and backing plate on ebay and then put it together with your s5/s4 turbo.
thats your plan right? |

$175 for a new turbo is one thing... $175 for a new turbo that wont implode and destroy your shit is another...

op, the turbo you linked to appears to be a V-trim wheel. T04B just refers to the compressor cover size. you can fit several different wheels in a T04B cover. v-trim is slightly bigger than stock, but still pretty small. check this out to see other T04B wheel sizes..
Compressor Wheels & Housings |
Ok so I decided to hold off on making a hybrid for the moment and ordered a FMIC from them instead.
But just for future reference when I get to piece a T04B together, will the compressor housing and backing plates match up size wise as long as they are both t04B? (not talking about the 60-1 or 62-1 housings) And as far as a wheel, an H trim would be a good size? And thanks for the link by the way. Favorited. :D |
Pick a wheel size based on how much spool-up you're willing to sacrifice for power. I wouldn't say a v-trim is "slightly" larger than stock. The inducer is 11.5mm larger and the exducer is 7mm larger. V-trim and H-trim flow is very similar.
Stock HT-18 compressor: 63.0 mm x 43.8 mm (exducer, inducer) Common T04B Compressors 8 Blade T04B Garrett PN, exducer x inducer, trim, flow 409179-0021, 70x48.36 mm, 48 trim, S trim (37 lbs/min) 409179-0022, 70x49.50 mm, 50 trim 409179-0023, 70x51.61 mm, 54 trim 409179-0024, 70x54.00 mm, 60 trim, U trim 409179-0025, 70x55.37 mm, 63 trim, V trim (48 lbs/min) 6 blade T04B 409826-0006, 70x48.35 mm, 48 trim 409826-0012, 70x52.85 mm, 57 trim 409826-0014, 70x55.30 mm, 62 trim, V trim (48 lbs/min) 409826-0015, 70x58.40 mm, 70 trim, H trim (49 lbs/min) Turbonetics 60-1, 76.2x59.0 mm (57 lbs/min) Turbonetics 62-1 (60 lbs/min) T04B backplates will work with any T04B cover. Those sized for 60-1 or 62-1 wheels should as well. |
