Hybrid NA block, 6 ports, fd Intake, custom exh, turbo?
Ok this is my third thread is as many weeks. My last post on my other thread is where it died. I have some new stuff here so a reason to make a clearer thread now that I seem to have a better idea of where I am going with this.
Here are some parts I have at my disposal and this is what I want to build. I need your blessings on it. What I have: S5 NA block with s4 na Irons. FD UIM and LIM Custom polished turbo exhuast manifold. Mid sized turbo - ( I dont remember the numbers or trim ) Intercooler T2 tranny Apex'i N1 Single Exhaust Microtec Lt8 Bigger Radiator What I will need: s5 turbo rotors Atkins rebuild with FD corner seals Bigger fuel injectors Bigger fuel pump Custom Oil Lines for the turbo. What do you guys think? Will this thing handle a good amount of boost? There are no tuning issues for high compressin rotors. I just need to know what you guys think about the six port setup as well as if the s5 housings and s4 na irons will hold up. Thanks- |
Driveshaft? Or does the N/A driveshaft bolt up to the T2 tranny? I thought you needed a special driveshaft for that.

I know you can use the s4 irons with the s5 housings. I also know you can put a turbo manifold on an NA. I also know you can put an fd manifold on an fc turbo. If someone could explain that would be great.
Driveshaft is not an issue. I could just get one from an automatic as far as I understand. |

The FD LIM is known for a shitty rear runner design (UIM is good though). I would stay away from it. I don't know if it was your thread that I posted this pic in:
https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...1&d=1240594040 stock FD LIM at the top, aftermarket LIM at the bottom. On the stock FD LIM, do you see the little pinch in the rear runners? Do you see how the front secondary runner is longer than the rear secondary runner? That design was necessary to fit the sequential turbos in a tight space, but it also makes the rear rotor run leaner and hotter on the FD. I am running an FD turbo manifold with a JDM s5 LIM: http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/l...7/101_1129.jpg . that is a long runner design however. You can barely see it, but the s5 T2 LIM does not have "pinch" in it that the FD does, and the runner lengths are more even between front and rear. Why don't you get Japan2LA to make his 6 port turbo manifold for you, out of an s4 T2 LIM? He probably could modify it so that the FD UIM would work. |
well my A.D.D is starting to kick in here. I have an LS1 I want to throw in my vert. I also have a brand new lt1. I was thinking instead of selling the NA coupe, go ahead and build a small turbo toy out of that to attone for putting the v8 in the vert.

fuckit, since I have one I figured there might be a way to use it. I have custom exhaust manifold and might be able to fit the turbo on there. I am also thinking of using an RE longblock I can get my hands on. Hmm. I am going to go play with this stuff some more and see what I can do.

I have a custom exhaust manifold and an s200 turbo. It should clear the intake manifold. So here are the prices on the stuff I have access to. I have a very good hookup. Everything else I will have to buy. turbo - 200 intake manifold - 100 brand new intercooler - 50 front mount piping - 15 Apex'i N1 exhaust - 250 Walbro - 75 brand new 2ndaries - 100 Decided to run this on my stock s5 na block - Need - Clutch $150 Bov - $100 Oil Lines - 140 Wastegate - 100 S- AFC? Rtek? - 200 Still too goddamn expensive------- |

but doesnt the rear runner on the lim make up its length in the UIM? i know its like that on the T2 LIM and UIM.... |
^ Not that I can see. And I'm not sure I agree that the T2 UIM has unequal length runners, whether that is "compensating" for a LIM design or not. I just had a set of s4 and s5 T2 manifolds and they seemed to be a very similar design except the s5 has longer runners and is physically taller. I didn't notice any significant difference in length. The FD LIM design problems are well known, which is a main reason why people buy that aftermarket manifold pictured above.
