Hurley Race Corner Seals

Dont know how many are using these but I thought id throw my hat into the ring and give them a try on my high HP application motor. Heres a few pics, I love the design, even outward force for better sealing etc.. IMO.

I've heard those eat irons. Let us know when you do the teardown.

how are hurleys seals compared to everyone else? just in general quality?
|
Hurley hasn't been exceptional in the engineering dept. from what i have seen, the concept looks good on paper but personally i don't think you would want even pressure on the seal and i hope they did their homework on the force of the spring, too much force will cause the seals to chew up the irons.

I've been wondering about these seals and how they perform.

looking at the stock spring mazda uses for the corner seals, and looking at them i would think that is to much pressure... just a thought

Wasn't there a problem with there apex seals a few years ago? From what I hear, they're a very soft seal, so much so that turbo rotaries almost won't tolerate them. I know a few builders who used them for trials and now wouldn't piss on a fire to put them out. I guess they're okay for a street, stock nonturbo engine or something that doesnt see much abuse or pressure. For my money, atkins, rotaryaviation, or mazda seals are all that's worthwhile. Besides that, their customer service and communication SUCK ASS. Back when I first wanted to start building engines, around '01, I checked with them about ordering batches of seals to save shipping, time, and money, since their seals were priced really well already. OUt of probably 10 emails I sent to them expressing my interest, I got back exactly zero replies. In contrast, the first email I sent to Kathy at Atkins Rotary was replied to within 4 hours, and we struck a deal that's worked out great to this day to supply my parts. |
