Huge Problem!!

ok you alll are gonna laugh at me about this but had just put on a flowmaster muffler and in the place of the cats i put a glasspack i was just curious on how it would sound and last night i started my car up and put it in gear when i let out the clutch and gave it sum gas it all of a sudden started to shudder and shake real bad. it feels like the exhaust is clogged somehow but im not for sure. then i had to drive it 20 miles back to my house, it wouldnt go any faster then 50 mph and i couldnt let the motor go lower then 2000 rpm or it would die. The motor feels fine the oil pressure is good and it didnt over heat. has anyone on here had this happen to them? i rele need some help here guys !!!

come on people!!

WAYNE88N/A 11-28-04 01:04 PM

I think you melted the glasspack and clogged yourself up. Rotary exhaust is much hotter than the piston poppers. Live and learn...

are_one 11-28-04 01:04 PM

Is it a TII? I know turbo cars don't like baffled flowmaster style mufflers

deetz 11-28-04 01:06 PM

its a gxl and yes i think it melted it too but i wanted to explore the other possibilities

darkphantom 11-28-04 01:06 PM

thats F****ed up, youll learn from your mistakes

deetz 11-28-04 01:09 PM

thanks guys

deetz 11-28-04 04:22 PM

ok i cut off the glass pack and ran a straight pipe off it and the missing is still happening if u rev it up to about 4 grand it pops and splits a flame. almost sounds like a misfire in the motor but the motors not shaking or anything its runnin good good oil pressure and not overheating what the hell is goin on??

WAYNE88N/A 11-28-04 05:17 PM

Check your TPS adjustment, and run her for a little longer without changing the exhaust setup again, see if she improves.

vintagespeed 11-28-04 07:55 PM

The crap from the glasspacks probably blew back into the flowmaster & plugged it. You can get it running & CAREFULLY feel the temp difference at the front of the muffler or suspected clog and then at the back of the clog. This is basically how you check a suspected bad cat. if the tubing is much hotter ahead of the cat then behind it then it's plugged. It should be roughly the same temp before & after a cat or in this case a clog.

ive already removed the cats and the glasspack and the flowmaster. but the motor still seems to be runnin extremely rich and it has no power whatsoever.

ErikTheDead 11-28-04 10:44 PM

only steelpack - live and learn

deetz 11-28-04 10:52 PM

whats that supposed to mean? im running my straightpipe again and its still doin it. do you have a clue what is wrong or not? if not then dont even bother with that live and learn bullshit im not in the mood.

deetz 11-29-04 01:07 AM

anyways i just got told it could be compression lost wat do uyou all think?

Kingofl337 11-29-04 06:06 AM

Is you ACV and air pump still connected?

JamesWade2002 11-29-04 06:29 AM

check the resistance on your water thermo sensor and check the voltage at the ECU. The FSM has the voltages for ignition on and at idle. This sensor can make your car run VERY rich. Also look for a coolant leak internal and external. be sure there is no coolant going to the combustion chamber.

deetz 11-29-04 09:23 AM

yes the airpump and all that stuff is still hooked up. its basically stock under the hood. no mods done except iridium plugs and sum fancy red wires lol

mazdarx7conv 11-29-04 09:31 AM

this prob doesnt sound like coolant in the chamer, he said nothing bout smoke. have you tried just running your car w/out any exhaust on at all. just to see if it even is your exhaust. post back

deetz 11-29-04 09:34 AM

yup we cut it rite b4 the flowmaster and ran a piece of flexpipe out the side. and its spittin flames out and back firing after everytime u hit the gas reguardlesshow high you rev it. we replacxed the plugs today and fuel filter and air filter

Pinfield357 11-29-04 10:11 AM

did you plug up your split air pipe? when you took of the cat?

deetz 11-29-04 10:20 AM

yup we rewelded it onto a hole we drilled into the new piping. what would that do if it wasnt working?

Thud_mcguffin 11-29-04 10:23 AM

I reccomend you do a compression test - I lost a rotor tip and the symptoms were exactly as you describe. You can use a standard compression tester with the check valve removed, this is a quick test and if it looks ok then start to work through the less obvious things.

Hope your engine is not blown......

rexman13b 11-29-04 10:24 AM

to do an easy compression check, pull the leading spark plugs and pull the egi fuse under the hood and crank the engine over. if the compression pulses you hear are not a constant whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, and are out of rhythm you've probably broken an apex seal. also was anything else done besides the exhaust?

deetz 11-29-04 10:25 AM

its most likely blown form what people have been tellin me.

rcefstsfecr 11-29-04 10:27 AM

Hey I know you are in the area. If you need any help let me know. I'll PM you my cell #.
