HT18 / T4 hybrid?

i posted this once before and never got an answer, but my turbo needs rebuilt now, so i need to know b4 i buy my kit.

Does anyone know if I can use the HT18 center section with my TO4B compressor and exducer? I have neard that the T4 rebuild kits work with the hitachi turbo, which is what gave me the idea.

the reason i want to so this is that my t4 is a dry setup, and i would like to use the stock wet center so that it will last a little longer without the need for a turbo timer.

thanks
pat

T3 kits fit the stock FC turbo perfectly. But don't tell anyone I told you that ;)

Also if you need one, we can get you one. :D

Oh, probably not...

I was just saying that the stock turbo internally is more or less a Garrett T3. We use T3 rebuild kits all day long and the pieces are exactly the same. I have verified this with a few different rebuild supply companies.

hahah, weird I never saw this before! :P

The Hitachi turbos are all based on the Garrett T3 and T04 design.
Therefore, all parts will swap over. :)
This is how you can use a Garrett T3 / T04 rebuild kit for your Hitachi HT-18.

Yes, you can use Garrett pieces in your HT-18!

ok one more question..
in my rebuild, i know i have to use the carbon seal with the stock center, but should i use regular or encapsulated ones?

Garrett offers carbon and dynamic seals on the backing plates.
The Hitachi HT-18 uses a carbon seal. :)

i know it uses a carbon seal, the question is, is there an advantage to the encapsulated type carbon seals, or should i just use the regular style carbon seals.

That's a good question.
I only know of only one type of "carbon seal". :(
Got information on what the differences are?
