FelixIsGod29X 01-07-10 12:16 AM

Im 20 in NY. When my 7 was insured under my name it was like $420 down & $250 a month. That was the absolute cheapest i could find. Now my 7 is insured under my girl friends name, 0 down, $80 a month. This is a red 86 rx7 no air bag, no abs, no back seats, title still in my name. We both have a clean record. All i can tell you to do is look around and get some estimates.

insanekiller18 01-07-10 12:18 AM

I pay 80.00 dollars a month for my RX7, I'm 21 with a few tickets.

chis57 01-07-10 12:18 AM

i got my license about 5 months ago and am paying mom for insurance she said her insurance went up $212 a month and $10 of that was for the car idk what that means but $212 a month is killer for a minimum wage worker that needs a rebuild lol

HOZZMANRX7 01-07-10 12:45 AM

Just don't buy comp and collision. You don't need it as what they'll charge you for one year of coverage is essentially what they'll give you for your 2nd Gen at the extream of they totalling it out. Getting in a fender bender is just an opportunity to learn how to unbolt the damaged fender and bolt on a replacement you get from pic a part or some forum member.

But don't go for minimum liability either. Get at least 50/100/25. Also get uninsured/underinsured coverage as well since there is a bit of an epidemic going on in this economy where folks are cancelling their insurance to save money.

Finally, for your parents sake, have your FC ONLY in your name. Don't let them put their name on the title. That only gives someone you hit a platform to go after your parents assets if you blow through your coverage otherwise.

You would think insurance would go up once you reach the drinking age lol.

But it seems to get cheaper with age..

martinjon666 01-07-10 12:56 AM

i pay 27 a month, but that includes discounts for homeowners 3 more cars and business insurance

90vertOR 01-07-10 01:09 AM

I pay $309 for every 6 months total for liability on my volvo and RX7 convertible. I'm 23 and have a relatively clean record! Dunno why it is so cheap! I feel like it shouldn't be.

iputmyRex_b4_Sex 01-07-10 01:23 AM

dude my insurance is dirt cheap... I got the "good student" discount and a clean record (as far as the insurance agency's concerned) and I'm payin $270 every 6 months... I'm 18

jjwalker 01-07-10 01:36 AM

I have 3 DWI's and only pay $75 per month for mine.

Nope, I don't drink and drive anymore, that was when I was a teen. I am 24 now.

Civerus 01-07-10 01:54 AM

$120/mo, I'm 19, and thats full coverage, live in Texas, insured by progressive. Also good student discount and have 2 speeding tickets and 1 accident (but that was in my transam, and not my fault, doesnt count, I wasnt even moving)

Also remember, most insurance places insure the RX7 as a sports car, and as a teen, that means $$. I thankfully, have a turbo conversion from an N/A chassis, so my V/N saves me some money saying its an N/A.

rx7_FREAKKK 01-07-10 03:02 AM

Insurance? whats that?

Telephone + Your Insurance Company's Phone Number = Answer

Also, there is usually no difference in premiums between a non-turbo FC and a turbocharged FC. In most cases the only RX-7s that have a higher premium are the FD and the convertible.

soulrider 04-06-10 04:51 PM

what would the estimate insurance be for a turbo II?
I'm 17, get pretty good grades and no tickets ...yet (although I got pulled over once, but he let me go woo)
thanks!

88rx7gxlturbo 04-06-10 06:25 PM

Mine is $14 a month for full comp and coll with $100 deductable. Got to love having collector plates. :)

Spirit-RE 04-06-10 07:28 PM

On my TII last year, full coverage was something like $35/month. At the time I was 18 with a few tickets, but I insured it as a secondary "weekend" car, and only drove it 3000 miles per year. My advice is to keep your honda thing as a primary driver, and throughly explain to your insurance company that you won't put that many miles on it, also say that you take real good care of it, its your baby, etc. etc.

ericgrau 04-06-10 09:07 PM

Well they always charge a lot less for a 2nd car. Mine is $70 a month for collision. Used to be about the same for liability only when I was younger, or about twice that for collision.

Exactly. Call around, everyone will be happy to quote you.

FCJoe 04-06-10 10:52 PM

Umm, you guys realize alot depends on where you live right? Just call all the insurance companies around you and get quotes, its free and easy. I'm 19, live in NY and I put $420 down and pay $190 a month. Clean license and I took driver's ed. Try to stay away from those big companies like Geico, Progressive, etc. they usually tend to be most expensive unless you're married with kids and a house.

Dusty2Rusty 04-06-10 10:58 PM

I pay $193/month and I have a Turbo II that's been "Modified For Extreme Performance" according to my insurance company, i'm 17 with one charge of careless driving (Going 240km/h in a 60km/h zone hahaha......:()

KusImmak7 04-07-10 11:41 AM

Yeah, before i blew and did my turbo swap i was paying about 220 a month and i was 18, 0 tickets 0 accidents and got my license and car 8 months ago.

KusImmak7 04-07-10 11:42 AM

Nice Dusty2Rusty.

Holy stupidity, Batman, you're lucky you even have a car dude. I hope I don't come across you when I'm driving in the Edmonton area. In Ontario, you'd have had your car impounded on the spot, and a $10,000 fine. Bye-bye license and car, and your minimum wage job wages for the next year. Quit being an idiot on the roads, or we'll end up with retarded, knee-jerk laws like Ontario's here, too, laws that give huge discretionary powers to the police (not that there's much question in your case) - did they impound your car? It's already dangerous driving - 6 demerits - and a mandatory court appearance unless the cop was lenient on you, and it's hard to see why he would be.

Take it to a club event at Stratotech, or look up the Alberta Solo Association (ASA) and go to some autocross events on the runways at CFB Namao.

MazdaRX7-87 04-07-10 01:22 PM

Just go to driving schools it lowers your insurance. i went to three driving schools but i also got some tickets and got hit two times in my civic. but my insurance is still 50 dollars a month. im 19 also.

rx7racerca 04-07-10 01:24 PM

For the OP: +1 pick up the phone; insurance rates are highly variable based on location, amongst other things, such as the phase of the moon, sunspot cycle, the price of powdered newt, and anything else weird and wonderful actuaries can find to analyze. Just collect as many quotes as possible. An FC with a teen driver is likely to be categorized as high risk, but a lot will depend on what . Multi-car and family rates can help, so your existing company is the place to start.

n.taluckder 04-07-10 10:18 PM

well since you live in MD you can get historic plates and only pay about 20 bucks a month insurance next year when the car becomes 20 years old. in addition u dont have to do a safety inspection or emissions.

R.O.D 04-07-10 11:41 PM

^but cant u only put so many miles on the car?

MmSadda 04-08-10 10:21 AM

Someone else may have said this, but - If you're on your family's insurance, write your primary vehicle as something else (less sporty and old, preferably), and either let a parent or no one claim that car as a primary vehicle.

n.taluckder 04-08-10 01:11 PM

yeah but also different company's have different policies so it might vary, one of my friends can only drive his 66' mustang on weekends only.

lol Yeah I know I was lucky, I don't drive like that all the time....I just bought the car and it was around 1 in the morning on a straight road and i wanted to see what the car could do.....in other words it was going to be a one time thing that turned into 6 demerits and a $400 fine. No my car was not impounded thank god. I had litterly bought the car that day....anywho, I have had a good rep with the police up until then....now they pull me over for everyreason (noise, headlights, just to check up...blah blah) But trust me from now on only speedin i'm doin is at the track...

AmviciousRav 04-11-10 03:07 PM

dude ur a teen, won't your parents let you on their insurance plan? i'm 23 and I'm on my mom's it's like 23 a month for my FC haha

I looked into the historic plates option in Maryland myself. My State Farm agent said I'd have to sign a form stating that I would only drive the car to and from car shows, to and from a repair facility, or to and from car club meetings. They also required that the car be garaged when it is not being driven. I like to drive my car about 5000 miles per year for all kinds of purposes, and I don't always keep it in a garage. I decided it wasn't worth the risk of them denying a claim (if I ever make one) just to save a few bucks.

no_luck 04-12-10 08:59 PM

let me start off and say this.. i was YOUNG and stuck on stupid....
i live in pa.. im 21 i am insured by progressive insurgence. i pay 120 a month for the above basic plan.. i have 13 points on my licence 1 car accident (thats when the stupidity stopped)
but just like every one said... call your local insurance company and get rates.. also i find that if you go through small insurance agents you'll receive a better rate sometimes

daviddeep 04-13-10 10:19 AM

To the OP, I wouldn't be surprised if the '91 NA RX-7 would actually be cheaper to insure than your existing 2001 Accord. Although the RX-7 is a sports car, it probably has less horsepower than your Accord and is ten years older (therefore lower Blue Book value). For example, I was surprised to learn that my '88 RX-7 costs me less to insure than my '02 Dodge Caravan. But you definitely need to call your agent and find out for yourself because of all the variables.

RockLobster 04-13-10 10:26 AM

Wow they really rape you youngins.

I pay $35 per month for FULL custom $15k coverage.

But it is not my primary vehicle, it's insured as a "weekender", no accidents, 32 years old, multi-car, multi-line, good student (lasts forever if your last semester ever was good), no accidents or tickets...

But, this thread is stupid, call your insurance company or ANY insurance company, having us yahoos conjecture on random insurance rates is retarded...

paganizondadude 04-13-10 02:58 PM

Im 17 in Washington with 100% clean record and mine is $146 per month for an '87 TII. Nice and cheap. My '91 Miata was $205 a month!

SoloII///M 04-13-10 06:22 PM

$172 a year.

Oh wait, I'm 32. :ack:

PnoyRx7 08-03-10 03:49 PM

240 a month in canada, its a n/a, no tickets etc... just because i live in a big city where there is lots of crime i guess. i could always register it to my families lake house which than drops it down to 180 a month lol. but this is when it ran and everything.

thejallenator 08-03-10 04:20 PM

well i was payin mine right now and i seen this thread. my bill is 33.94 a month. nice and cheap. and as time goes by the rate seems to drop. a year ago i was paying ~70-80 bucks a month.

PnoyRx7 08-03-10 07:52 PM

also im on my own insurance so it may be cheaper if i was under a family members name

jjwalker 08-04-10 12:17 AM

My DWI's just fell off my insurance record (they only care about violations that occur within the past 3 years) so my insurance dropped from $75 to $50 monthly. I am 24, and that is for liability, in an S5 Vert. My agent said it will go to half of that amount ($25) when I turn 25 in February. I plan on getting comprehensive instead of just liability at that time since I have spent $9000 on the car.

daviddeep 08-04-10 09:09 AM

You might want to look into an antique/classic car declared value policy then. Your run-of-the-mill carrier will limit you to the book value of your car, which is probably just a few thousand dollars, comprehensive or not.

driftxsequence 08-04-10 11:29 AM

im 19, just got my n/a 7.

im paying 192 a month(only liability), with one previous accident.
