How would I go about wiring a starter button?

I've seen ignition buttons/switches on ebay... but how would I go about installing one? Would it be possible to make it unable to start unless the key was in the ignition? I am very interested in adding this, but money is tight and I dont want to drop $60.00 on something that will compromise the theft-safeness of my car. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Anyone have any pics of this mod in their car? I'd like to put the button where the cigarette lighter is.... Thanks!

Its simple. just cut the 12V to the starter wire (from your ign switch) run a 12V wire to a push button, then connect the wire you just cut to the other side of the push button. Now the key still has to be forward for the coils to get 12V, however you can crank it w/o the key in (but it still wont start cause no power to the coils) It sounds weird cause Im tired and it prolly doesnt make too much sense, I'll rewrite it tomarrow for you

Made perfect sense to me.

or you can completely bypass the relay in case it fails somehow and just wire a complete new circuit down to the starter. all you need is a 12V supply from the battery to the switch then from the other terminal of the switch down to the solenoid on the starter. this is how i had my elcamino wired.

Don't wire directly to the starter. There's no reason to shove 20A+ through the switch. Yes, the solenoid draws that much current.

Wire it in parallel with your stock ignition key switch.
