how wide of a tire can you fit on an s5 TII wheel?

245? I'm hoping?

245/40/16 should be about right to make it match the stock profile, right?

Will these fit in the front without rubbing? Car has coilovers and is at stock ride height, maybe lowered /very/ slightly.
I can roll the edges of the fenders at the top if it's necessary...

im not positive how wide will fit on the stock rim , the rim is 7" wide, so a 225 will fit, but i think 245 is a bit too wide for the rim....

245 is definitly too wide to fit in the front if it fits on the rim in the first place....

your idea is wrong,

the closest to match stock profile, height, whatever, would be a 245/45/16, and thats only off bit a very small fraction about 0.8%

a more reasonable size would be a 225/50/16 and that is very close to stock height, within .1%

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

theres a good tire calculator, 205/55/16 is the stock tire size

225 = just not wide enough.

so if I can't use these rims then I'll go with wider ones, 17x8's or something...

thanks though :D
so s5 TII rims are only 7" wide? I was under the impression they were wider :)

You cant fit wider than 225 up front without a widebody kit. 245 is about the limit for the rears, although I think I saw someone with 255s once.
And yes, 225 is about the biggest you can safely fit on the stock rims.

wider than 225 with s5 TII wheel rubs on what? or just at full lock? or what?

Sideways7 01-17-06 09:46 PM

It doesnt have to do with the stock TII wheel, 225 is just the widest you can run without rubbing on suspension while turning.

what about the 15inch bbs's that came on the verts? i want to get some falken azenis 225/50/R15 on front and some 235's for the rear on my 91 vert for summer time

Terrh 01-17-06 10:05 PM

what part of the suspension does it rub on?

KingCobraV9 01-17-06 10:19 PM

the spring. i have 225/50's on my tII rims and its really close up front but doesnt rub

Terrh 01-17-06 10:47 PM

so if I've got coilovers (which have a way smaller than stock spring) that wouldn't be an issue then, right?
