how strong is the LSD 5 lug mazda rear.

i have a turbo II rear end i believe... car is an 86 base model. but it has the 5 lug conversion, and it definatly has lSD, im pushing estimated 350 ft/lbs to it, anything i should be worried about. how strong is the rear end bushing?

also what do you guys do about wheel hop, the car already has koni's and some springs i cant detirmine what they are and i bought the car with them on.

no help for me? it cant seriously be a hard question to answer.

Well wheel hop will probably be hard to get rid of.

Our rearends are known to break mounts when you take it to the track. A few drag launches can break the main opain in the ass mount. Some people just weld in metal instead of the rubber mount or you can buy the Mazdatrix Racing mount which is stiffer rubber.

The mount is above and to the drivers side of the drive shaft and Diff connection. You can tell it's broken by the extremely disturbing Clunk when you shift.

If it is a turbo rear end, you shouldnt have anything to worry about. They have been fine in many rx-7s running 500+ HP, and sub 10sec 1/4miles. I have seen them break, as will any part under that kind of constant abuse, but It can handle a good bit of power. If it is the N/A rear end, you should be fine as long as you dont use slicks, or DRs for that matter. As long as the tires spin before all that torque can build up in the rear end.

is there a way to distinguish rear ends by castings or numbers on the castings?

btw the car has a V8, i hope that dosent spoil the answers i recieve. thanks a bunch

about the wheel hop/sidestep? usually a wheel alignment does wonders, thats what i'd recomend from my expansive knowledge of rx's- not. give it a try, it probly needs it anyway if you havnt had one since you bought the car -stu

After building up my Turbo rotory I had terrible wheelhop. Couldn't launch over 2,500rpm and even when launching lower rpms it would wheel hop like crazy once it lost traction.

I added a JIC Magic Carbon Fiber rear strut tower bar and the wheel hop instantly vanished. Now it loses traction very smoothly.

I also noticed it affected my cornering VERY much. In turning transitions when letting off the throttle the rear end steps right out predictably now. It never stepped out at all letting off the throttle before the rear strut bar. Adds a whole new dimension in the handling of the car- very nice!

Of course, I have an engine torque brace, Mazdacomp motor, trans, and rear end mounts and full suspension upgrades that had been on the car prior to the rear strut bar- w/ the stock pieces in place there may be another part that flexes before the rear shock towers.
