How to properly Drive a rotary?

I'm about to finish my rx7 build and start it up for the first time I've been looking around on youtube on videos of people showing how to actually drive and utilize that 13b power but most of them are just people cruising and there really isn't that much dialogue of what they're doing Im mostly asking this because I just know the basics of driving stick I don't know how to rev match, power shift, properly down shifting or anything I would really appreciate if someone could share a video or even make one on how to drive

Get in,start it.,.and drive the shit out of it.

It's a CAR.

After learning how to drive a traditional style internal combustion engined car, driving a rotary is exactly the same, except shifting at about 7k is more acceptable/advised in my opinion for speed.

what styx said. your last sentence made me facepalm...
drive the car, figure out your powerband, learn to shift/downshift, no different than any other car...
but if you need a video, here ya go

hes asking for break in procedures.

in piston cars its a huge debate as to how you should "set the rings"

barkz 09-10-14 06:16 PM

really? where did he say that? he asked how to drive a car

i presume he is breaking it in.

Rob XX 7 09-10-14 07:55 PM

Not the way i read it.

Its ok I'm sure he is excited and just wants to enjoy his car.
Drive it and learn it man, get on an open highway leave that shit on 3rd gear you can stab the throttle and accelerate, let up and go like that all day long staying in 3rd gear. Enough to get things exciting not enough to get arrested

HRnico 09-10-14 10:33 PM

Now I'm confused

This is how you drive a rotary. Also note use of correct break-in procedure here.

Well, now I know what I am doing with my NA setup after I finish rebuilding my Tii. lol

Actually, I want to put this on a gokart, but I feel the 600cc crotch rocket engines are probably still lighter.

Synchronized transmission, so don't even attempt to "rev match" and shift without the clutch, you'll just fuck up the transmission. You can also forget power shifting.

There are TONS of videos on youtube describing how to properly down shift and rev match the engine for when you release the clutch pedal.

If i get bored/drunk enough today, I may make a little video for you describing what to do. I'll probably go ahead and describe the little querks these cars have.

I prefer the full HD version...... by actually driving, lol

Come on man, stop giving him shit.

Maybe he is a teenager scared to fuck up his car? Why can't we help him? He obviously doesnt know anything about a manual transmission.

It isn't like this thread is "Hey fuckheads, I wanna turbo my NA" or "Premix or no premix" that has been just ungodly beat to death over and over again.

I know he hasnt posted anything since, and maybe it's because people where being mean, but why can't we try to help the kid out? Want to see another FC blown up in a dumpster?

Rob XX 7 09-11-14 01:29 PM

take it easy JJ I DID help him and offered some advise

It's not that.

We all know there are those stupid...stupid questions that keep popping up over and over and over again, this isnt one of them.

You did help, but most people have been making fun of him. Look at it this way, he is smart enough to ask how to rev match an engine.

Intelligent people will doubt themselves, but the ignorant will always have confidence.

Rob XX 7 09-11-14 01:50 PM

thats why my advise is to get out there and try it, its the only way to learn and he might even enjoy himself!

I got ya.

I learned how to drive a manual trans in a 1990 eclipse with a broken engine mount. It was so bad you'd have to yell "bitch!" and force it into gear.

If the OP wants to PM me, I'll help you out man.

I learned how to to drive a stick on the way home from getting the car. It was a '75 Pontiac Astre' Wagon (Vega) that a friend of mine's father GAVE me.

Stellar piece of machinery let me tell you.

It had sat for sometime under his deck and looked pretty bad. Ex-wife story.

I know nothing of driving. I thought all 7s were on blocks waiting to be finished

~Rev Free~ 09-12-14 06:48 PM

Here's a serious response if you still need help, don't bog the engine, don't put excessive load on it from low RPM's (under 2500) and exercise patience.

I personally never go WOT under 3000 rpm, but I'm poor and can't afford a rebuild. You might be rich and want to rebuild tomorrow.
