How much would you pay?
 

for a 1988 TII with a salvage title.

Engine was rebuilt about 15,000 miles ago, Car has Street Port, 3 mm Apex seals, Blitz Blow off valve, Blitz turbo timer, HKS gauges, F-com, and Fuel Cut Defender.

Also Has 18 inch Konig Villians.

Was salvaged because of a engine fire, the fire wasn't caused by the pulsator dampener. It happened when the guy put the engine back together he didn't put one injector in all the way and it squirted fuel.

The car is Cherry, almost no dings or dents, in great shape and the interior is in almost perfect shape. Only blemish is the driver side Seat is torn (leather).

Let me know whot you think. He wants 5,850 for a salvage title. I offered him 4,000 cash.

When prices pretty much get under $5,000, there isn't much of a ding for a salvage title. Only issue is most insurance companies won't insure a salvage title car for comp and collision. But, when it's cost gets at this level, Comp and Collision doesn't make much sense anyway. One fender bender and it's an automatic total.

If it's in excellent shape like you say, you got a pretty fair deal at $4,000. But, probably still a good deal above $4,000.

It depends what the aftermarket items are worth to YOU. The blue book on the car is around $2,700 - $3,500 in "excellent" condition, depending on the mileage. Car dealerships and average consumers will actually subtract value from the car due to aftermarket parts. However, if you like the aftermarket parts, then the car is obviously worth more to you. Just don't add value to the car based on what the OWNER thinks the aftermarket parts are worth, if you know what I mean.

I would also check the VIN to make sure that it was actually a fire that totaled the car.

I agree with evil... personally I wouldn't give more than $3k for the car.

Is there no way to recertify the car in Hawaii??? if there isn't then I wouldn't even offer $2K

Ya I wouldn't pay that much. $4,000+ is in S5 TII range. I'd pay like $3 maybe but only if I couldn't find another TII.

ummm yeah I payed $4k for a 90 in similar condition mods-wise, but with proper fuel work instead of a FCD, and some ugly ass chrome neeper's instead of 18" konigs, but ummmm mine has never been ON FIRE. It seems like a lot of money of a car that has been burned and will probably need a few $k of underhood work and painting before it can be driven again.

Make sure that it was just for an engine fire. I've seen plenty of bent cars patched back together. I wouldn't want one, but they get sold everyday to the unsuspecting. If everything checks out I would still deduct a fair amount because if you have to sell it your buyer will deduct the same amount.

First of all thanks to everyone for the responses. The car is in near perfect condition regardless of the fire, under the hood looks almost new with the exception of some minor discoloration under the hood. This engine runs strong, and I mean strong. N/A doesn't even compare to this TII. It is a monster.

it's a good price, but the thing is about buying a used car with performance parts is that you know that the guy wasn't driveing like grandma, he put that stuff on there so he could push that engine and im shure that is exactly what he's been doing...

I guess it all depends on how much you want it, and how hard TIIs are to get ahold of in HI. I'm guessing they're pretty hard to find, so I think $4k might be a good deal.
