How much should an engine rebuil cost??
Carlos Gonzales(his turbo rotary gen 3 is featured in a nag on the stands right now) is gonna look at my car and tell me the outcome.Worst case senario is an engine rebuild....is this alot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Worst case scenario meaning a blown apex seal, or something else catastrophic could mean getting a replacement rotor, housing, endplate or center iron. You don't need to get new ones, just good condition used ones. The basic rebuild kits are about $600 minimum, plus labor and any necessary replacement parts could mean minimum of $1000 if you pay someone else to do it.
Or you could buy a used but running 13B for $3-600 . . . hopefully your engine is not blown though. |
Engine rebuilds can be as little as $600 (rare) to as much as you want to spend. General rule I would say if you're not replacing housings and rotors is you'll have around $900 in it if you do it yourself.
|
depends on the level of rebuild you are looking for. If a stock rebuild then cost should be at a minimum but if you are wanting to get into porting then it will go up, by how much depends on the type porting you want.
|
I spent $1600 on parts alone + 300 for porting. This was done by me, and only includes the short block. So yeah, how far do want to go.
|
I wish it was closer to 1600....... :(

So around a grand or so? |
By the way Id just thought id put my 2 cent worth in...
My engine is blown w/ only 55kmiles...sucks but shoping around I came up with around 3,000 for a basic rebuild and install and removal and a standard street port(why the hell not...right) Thats around in NC...But I would recomend Kevin Landers....www.rotaryreserection.com (misspelled) but for around 1.5-2k you can have him do everything...including a streetport! Check him out. He's in TN. |
Here's the right link for Kevin :D
I just bought a rebuild from him, picked it up from the shipping company on Monday. Going to install it soon (I hope). ;) He's a no-BS person and won't just tell you something to make you feel better or anything. He's honest and upfront about everything. |
You won't have any idea what the condition of the motor is until its apart. Don't be buying all sorts of needless items if you don't need them. See what needs or is out of spec. When I tore mine down, everything was in spec so I just needed a basic seal kit which I got from Atkins.

rotaryaviation.com is cheaper than atkins.

Now days expect to pay around 900$ just in rebuild kit, that is considering your housings and rotors and bearings are ok. You should spend between 1500$ and 2000$ if you don't, then they are not putting all the parts new.
