How many parts does a 13b engine have?
I’m going to have my mechanic send all the dismantled parts of my engine away for ultrasonic cleaning. Are there any parts that are particularly fragile that I should have sent separately from the larger engine parts so they don’t get damaged in transit? How many parts should I tell the cleaner he should be expecting in total? It’s a 13bt s5. I’ll be wanting to remove each water and oil line so it would be helpful to know the number of those too, thanks

It's hard to answer since it depends what you define as "parts" and what you're reusing. For example, you're definitely including the oil and coolant lines. Are you including the front pulleys? Oil pump? Are you having the fasteners cleaned?
At a minimum to call it a 13B, it's the following: - 2 rotors - Eccentric shaft - 2 housings - 3 Irons - Tension bolts (if re-using). - Front and rear stationary gears. Then you have to add in everything else that you want cleaned in addition. As far as fragility, the rotors are probably the most likely to be damaged. If dropped it can deform the grooves for the apex or side seals, so they need to be packaged securely. Housings and irons are a bit more stout, but realistically every part should be treated with care. |
I would probably just do stuff that gets grimey from oil and water and is not easily replaceable with new equivalents.
Are any of the oil lines in this picture rigid pipes? I assume those aren't easily replaceable. What about parts 6, 3, 11 and 8, are they parts you'd bother to keep and not replace? Thanks https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...f842eb9486.jpg |
All of those parts you name are reusable if in good shape. The metering oil pump (if working) should be kept in my opinion.
The oil lines are a hardline section crimped to a flexible section. The OEM lines are very high quality. If they aren't leaking, I would suggest cleaning and reusing. If they are leaking, either pay the ludicrous OEM price or convert to AN line like I have. You get what you pay for though, those expensive OEM lines are very well made. |
