How to make my non turbo RX-7 louder?

I have a 1990 RX-7 non turbo which has a Racing Beat exhaust system on it and it sounds very nice and deep. I jsut want to know ways I could make my car louder without losing any hp. Would putting a cold air intake make it louder and give it an hp gain?

tuscanidream 05-10-11 05:08 PM

Header with no cat and single exhaust. Loud as fuk.

yes a cold air or cone intake, will make a little more noise, not a lot though.

usually these things are too loud!

Sell your racing beat exhaust to someone who appreciates quality and purchase one of the cheap N1 style catbacks from ebay. Spend the rest of the money on ear plugs for passengers.

A passenger is unnecessary weight.

Unbolt the exhaust manifold, and sell the exhaust. Ears will bleed, but you won't go much faster.

Spirit-RE 05-10-11 09:52 PM

Run it open header for two days. Realize how stupid it is to have a overly loud car. Put exhaust back on and appreciate the quietness and tone;)

nycgps 05-10-11 09:57 PM

Just remove anything after the exhaust port. I'm sure your ears will love the sound (and cops, too), but you probably not gonna be able to enjoy it for too long, since you will loose your hearing in a couple of minutes if not seconds.

Yeah your RB exhaust will have to go, but instead you can just go with a Pacesetter header on it and run a straightpipe back. :)

K-Tune 05-10-11 10:53 PM

Take a 7/16" drill bit and drill exactly 13 holes in the piping of your exhaust, that should make the sound you're after.

I suggest dynamite, you will definitely get the attention you crave

fupersudge 05-10-11 11:26 PM

Header, then a pipe.

Will sound like this.

A header -> test pipe -> cheap N1 knockoff...is loud, but nothing like that. That is factory manifold to 2.5" stainless all the way to the bumper. Urg

That sounds like a poorly maintained weedwacker.

SpikeDerailed 05-11-11 12:20 AM

It smokes like one also.

I actually passed a cop once, open RB header (Cat hadn't been welded together yet.), speeding 60 in a 45.

which RB exhaust do you have? RB says that if you want a little louder exhaust note, get the turbo cat back version and slap it on the n/a. it says on their website. i have no idea how much louder it would sound though.

If you prefer a slightly louder exhaust tone, this Turbo system can be installed onto the non-turbo RX-7 chassis without any fitting issues.

rotary_bünta 05-11-11 11:37 AM

Just get an exhaust leak.

I have a real apexi n1 canister it makes an extremely loud, crispy rx7 haha. Head,2.5 pipe not cat to real n1 canister. Its for sale. Im running magniflow muffler cause I learned being that loud on an na is not worth it, if your gonna be loud atleast be fast so u have an excuse.

Kenshin XI 05-11-11 07:32 PM

heres a video i made of me revving my RX-7.. this is what it sounds like with the RB exhaust on it.. idk which exhaust it is since it was already on from the guy i bought it from. But if you drive behind my car when it reaches around 3k rpm, it has the most amazing exhaust sound ive ever heard on any car. It has a very nice deep smooth loud soundhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWQSfqhr_Uo

asianbob 05-12-11 01:29 AM
