How to make a aluminum spoiler?
 

Im trying to make a Aluminum spoiler. I know how to make the brackets, just go to the shop and have the aluminum piece cut. But how do i make a the wing it self, the huge main part of the spoiler???
My idea is that they poor melted aluminum into the mold, but im gust gueesing. If so, from what material the mold have to be made of, and how do i get aluminum hot enough to melt it????? thanks

Well to answer your quesion, i dont know. Maybe go to your local metal fab shop and ask them about it, they may even make you one for cheaper than it is to buy an A/M one, and you could have your own design. Everyone have a nice night

Bah! I was just joking. I don't care what he does to his car. my guess is that if he wants a home-made one he can just go to a hardware store and buy a big piece of aluminum.

A cast aluminum wing probably wouldn't be a good idea because it would be rather heavy. Also, since aluminum is sold by weight, it would probably be more expensive than a pre-made wing that you can mail order.

Most aluminum wings are made from either a honeycomb or semi-monocoque construction. Composites, such as fiberglass and carbon fiber, are another option. Making a functional wing is an extremely complex process, especially if you do not have any pre-tested plans to work from. Search the home-built aircraft web pages for info on how to make wing structures. Good keywords are "homebuilt", "EAA", and "experimental", and this web page has many links:

You could also use sheet metal to make a full-monocoque wing, but it would be rather difficult to get the bends correct, especially with the heavy gauge metal that would be required to take the load.

Pre-made extruded aluminum struts are another option. If you can find a marine salvage yard nearby, aluminum sailboat struts make great spoilers.

Aluminum can also be extruded to make the wing sections. It would be the same process as making the aluminum legs of a ladder, just the die would be specific to the wing. Probably $250,000 will buy a used extruder and another $10,000-$20,000 to get a die made. Gee, you would only have to sell ?????? to break even.

Just playing with you a little bit, but seriously just buy a wing if you want one. You would have to much time and money in to amke it worth while.

I am in the middle of builing a bracket for the T wing. I was given the exact measurements from Cusco in developing their T wing bracket for the Rx7. My friend is building them for me. And if they turn out right and fit properly we plan on building a couple more for you guys. We figured out that by using any typical Rice T-Wing you can fabriacte it onto the bracket with little welding or no weld using scews. https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...&postid=366093
Thats the bracket measurement i posted earlier..Tell me if you build and how it turned out..Its really simple to build and the measurements are excatley the size to fit over the rear side..

just take 1 of those metal park benches and bolt it to the car, gives some good downforce der (in newyork accent)
