How long can i prolong the rebuild?
 

the motor only has 85K on an N/A but i think one of the oil control seals jumped ship. I burned something like one quart in 200 miles. And it smokes in a definiative manner. being the cheap SOB i am, how long can i go without doing the full rebuild? if i keep adding oil and doing a regular water treatment to counteract any carbon build, will it be okay or is the thing going to get trashed making a rebuild suck? I have seen plenty on the how to rebuild or you should rebuild and i know i can and i should but 600 dollar rebuild kits say otherwise.

if it is a really bad idea, ill just pull the motor over the winter once the T2 is done.

or can i get away with replacing only the oil control seals (if that is the problem..)

I hate to tell you that 600 dollars is not going to cover it if your oil control rings went south.... the rubber seals come with the rebuild kit, but if the hard rings are shot, they are 60 bucks a pair (X4 for the set). If they are shot, chances are, the step wear on the irons is going to be bad as well.

You really need to take the car off the road and replace the engine... you could probably gind a decent running motor for 5-600 bucks (i paid 400 for one that lasted me three years a while back)

The sad realization is that, while i know you don't have money falling out your ass, if you let this problem go for too long, something bad is going to happen and the price of housings keeps going up.

and so it will sit. Once i get the TII going, ill start that whole thing up with this one. I guess while i am at it, it could use some things.
