How long can a FC stay parked?
I am wondering. I will put my FC in a garage for this coming winter. questions are.
1- every how long should I go turn her on? 2- is it true that a parked car too long, cups the tires? 3- do i have to drain the car of fluids? 4- should i disconnect the battery? thanks guys for any input. |
I'd personally leave the oil in the car, but drain the gasoline. After thats all empty I'd pull the leading plugs and pump some motor oil into the chambers and crank it over for a couple seconds. That should be good enough, also, I'd leave the coolant in as well. Make sure that its a proper mix, and not just water so that it prevents corrosion.
After storage, flush all the rest of the coolants and replace with new. Car should work just as good. For good measure you might want to inject a bottle of throttle bodie cleaner at high rpms while the car is running to get rid of any carbon/sludge on the rotors before storage. Last thing you want is a stuck apex seal after a few months of sitting, |
a search on 'winter storage' or something similar will yield many, many results, if what black plague suggested wasnt enough

I know of people who have filled their car engines oil and coolant with sewing machine oil for storage (Never ran the car with it in it)
Then you dont just disconnect the battery, remove it entirely. Bolt a Zinc block to the car to prevent it from rusting :) |
I let mine sit for a year without doing anything... did motor swap (so coolant and oil got flushed)... and she fired right up. I think plagues is the ideal method tho... hehe.

We are talking about winter storage for about 4-5 months, correct?
If so, you don't need to drain fluids, that is rediculous. My low mileage vert is in a perpetual state of storage since it gets driven very little. All you need is to dump some fuel stabilizer into your fuel, drive the car so the stabil is in your fuel system and park it. I would jack up the car to take the load off of the tires to prevent damage. If you can, firing it up so engine fully warms up every 2-3 weeks would be best. |
DO NOT DRAIN THE GAS in fact do not drain any thing if you
if you drain the gas your gas tank can start rusting and that is a nightmair you dont want to deal with have a proper mix of coolant and start if once a month if your worried |
thanks alot for all that info. i think i will leave all the fluids and just warm up the car every 2 weeks. i cant drive the car in the winter, no snow tires :P but all this info helped a bunch. thanks again
