how high is oil pressure supposed to be?
My oil pressure rarely reaches 60, i know that my oil pan gasket has a leak; is this the problem. Is this dangerous? How much would it be to fix the gasket?
Thanks guys |
70psi @ 3000+ RPMs
35-50psi @ Idle Fix your leak... maybe the guage is a little faulty too. |
what pressure is it supposed to be on the metric gauge? I can't even remember the units...

Thanks guys The gasket is free. Just use RTV silicone sealant. Drain the oil. Support the engine on the passenger side from the top and remove the passenger side engine mount. Scrape off the mating surfaces, apply a liberal amount of the gooey stuff, and reinstall, carefully following torque specs. Easy. If you REALLY want a pan gasket though, I have a Mazda one I'll sell you for $1, plus shipping. Are you sure it's leaking from the pan though? How bad of a leak? What gauge are you using to diagnose the oil pressure? |
im using the stock guage, inside the car to determine how much oil pressure there is. Im pretty sure there is oil leaking from somewhere. I just assumed it was the gasket because thats where the most oil accumulates.

Also you might want to check the thermal pelet in the front of the E-shaft. If thats not working corectly it will lower your oil pressure.

http://www.fc3s.org/ Thats the location of a free factory service manual. Look in the OIL SECTION. See how they use a MECHANICAL GAUGE to check the oil pressure. That tells you something about the stock gauge and sending unit.
The sending unit is usually incorrect and reading a bit low. You can hang a 142 ohm resistor on the sending units connector and put the other end of the resistor to ground. The gauge should read approx sixty. Buy a aftermarket mechanical oil pressure gauge just for testing purposes and attach it and compare the cars readings. Five will get you ten the stock gauge is off. |
