How high is high enough? (High temp grease question)

The haynes manual says to use high temp grease on the throw out bearing and tranny input shaft. Is 350 degree lithium base grease high enough? Or is there another type I should use?

Lithium grease is very grainy. you could use it, but t could create pits aftre a long time. The stuff i always use on chassis lubing and wheel bearing..... is valvoline dura blend grease. You can use whatever brand you want but MAKE SURE it says NLGI in a white box this means it has been tested and proven by the national lubricating grease institute. Any thing else could cause potential problems-hey years of school did pay off for something

Use bearing or "moly" (short for "molybdenum" disulfide) grease.
It's typically dark in color.

White lithium is not typically for bearing applications or high temp use.

Although it's a commercial site, this link has a good basic info on grease types.

The lithium grease I have is black and says its a multi purpose lithium based grease with a dropping point of 350F. Its not grainy, its smooth like butter. The other stuff you mentioned isn't hard to find though. Thanks for the replys.

My experience with the typical lithium grease (white stuff) is that it tends to "cake" and harden with cooler temps.  The moly stuff does not do that as bad.  There is such thing as grease with lithium in it, which does not sound like the typically white lithium grease.

Good luck!
