How High

How high of rpms can you run before blowing the seals in a stock 88 rx

DannyD 03-17-05 03:40 PM

redline, no reason to rev past that in a stocker
you could prolly free rev in a misshift or something to 11 and not hurt anything, but dont ever do that purposely. you wont make power after your redline anyways.

Travisty 03-17-05 03:42 PM

Any amount of rev's could potentialy blow a seal, but to be safe, keep it below redline.

rx7b13 03-17-05 03:43 PM

but when you have mods on it like intake and exhuast but nothing exactly done to the engine

rx7b13 03-17-05 03:47 PM

how safe would it be if i put 3mm seals with light weight rotors.

DannyD 03-17-05 03:52 PM

safer. slap it on a dyno and see where it makes power to. and make sure its tuned properly and put together correctly. I believe its not really the motor that starts messing up at high rpms if it was constructed right, but its the accessories like the water pump that start to fail on the high end.

From what I understood, you need hardened stationary gears to be able to safely rev past redline.

I was always under the impression that your flywheel is what fucks up. Like its balanced up to a certain rpm and loses itself after that point. Itsnt that why the s5 has a 8k redline? Better intake and a more balanced flywheel?

Travelintrevor 03-17-05 05:23 PM

past 10k rpm you need a scatter shield or you could die and/or hurt others...the flywheel/tranny can fly apart at that high of a rpm level
