How the hell do i get the flywheel off
ive taken off the flywheel nut and all the bolts that sit behind the flywheel, i just ordered mazda trix's rebuild video but havent got it yet, anyone wanna tell me how to take the flywheel off?
|
Well, I've read that you need a tool that stops it from spinning while you're removing it? Is that your problem? I've never tried to take one off before though, sorry :/
|
just wack it side to side with something rubber, or spray it with penetrating oil at the shaft and wiggle it till it comes off
|
Its on pretty good, but heres a good video
http://www.mazdatrix.com/pictures/fa...lywheelFAQ.mpg its also on the faq on their website. I personally used a wedge but this method works |
he already got the nut off so its just a matter of hitting it. It will come off with enough persuasion =)

..Ya,a wedge is good,.persistence and patience is key. OH!..keep the Flywheel nut ON a couple turns, because It will pop of suddenly, and FALL on your Foot!..seen it.heard of it.(just about got me..once..Never again.) |
There are two threaded holes in the flywheel a small distance out from the big nut with a 10mm thread .Screw in two bolts that are long enough to touch the rear iron and apply a small ammount of pressure then hit the end of the e-shaft with a copper mallet or similar preferabley with the nut still on it but not tight and it should pop off no problem.Works for me every time ( manual flywheel ),cheers.

just wack repeatedly in circular pattern with rubber mallet
|
I just took mine off of an 85. It was on good! What worked for me was to heat the area around the key with a torch then use a dead blow hammer from harbor freight and whack it side to side. It will eventually come off.

Off in 15 seconds...
Leave the nut on for a couple of turns. Hit the flywheel with a 4# hammer. Hit it somewhere that is not a wear surface or a pedestal (N/A) and hit it with the face of the hammer as close to flat as possible. A couple of whacks. When it comes loose, that last whack will make the flywheel ring like a bell. Before it comes loose, the flywheel will make a metallic sound, but will not ring like a bell.
Come on, don't be a p***ey, hit it! Mazdatrix has a video with a *girl* doing it... http://www.mazdatrix.com/pictures/fa...lywheelFAQ.mpg |
lol that video is awesome
|
deadblow hammer, that's what I use to my friend's 12a motor
|
the e-shaft had some play along with the flywheel so i pulled them out as far as i could then shoved a prybar behind the flywheel and pounded back on the e-shaft so that the flywheel was pushed forward, it came right off
