How to Gut the Cats?
 

I hear about people gutting their cats when they get plugged but they never say how this is accomplished??

Also some people say not to do it because then you get fumes coming from under the car. but i don't see why you would if the system is sealed properly with new gaskets etc.

You could unbolt it, grab a pipe, stick it inside, and hammer all the stuff out. If you live someplace where emissions doesn't matter (like Hawaii:D) then go for it. A lot of places require all that emissions crap and if that pertains to you, then I would suggest getting a high flow cat or something like that.

just get a heavy duty piece of pipe and a hammer, and bust it out, not so hard, but it can take some time.... just depends on the tools you've got, and even if your state does require emissions, like mine, there are ways around it, there are several service stations that will pass cars without cats. you just gotto know where to go

Id think that welding a peice of piping in place of the cat, or at least finding a peice that you are going to leave inside the cat (that is the same size as the exaust piping) would be best, and would cut down on turbulence as well

Seems like the jagged edges from pushing a hole thru the cat would cause a bit of turbulence and slow down flow

Or you could buy my gutted cats.

If you gut your cats gently, can you actually put the stuff back in when emmission time comes around?

i have a gutted cat i did it 2 weeks before i got my racing beat because i figured i didn have much to lose it makes the car louder and i think it helped it some what all i did was used a prybar and a hammer. i still have a little chunk of the stuff from inside of it in my glove box for a souvenir. haha

My cat has a 3" pipe going straight through it just one word of warning if you do it dont get pulled over for emmisions it really sucks.

Nope. The stuff inside the cat shatters into a billion pieces. Gutting the cat isnt as easy as it sounds. The stuff inside of it is pretty stubborn. It will take you from 30mins to an hour depending on what you use to gut it.

Its better if you take off your cat and take it to a muffler shop. Tell them a B.S story about your "RACE CAR" and how you need a pipe with flanges made the same size as the cat. Now you have a cat replacement pipe that you can bolt on when ever you want. The air flows better and the car will sound better as well. When emissions comes around, just bolt up the cat and you're set.

um no. gutting your cat requires you to break up the solid brick of material inside of it so it all comes out the nice 2 inch hole at the end.

also removing your cats and going with a straight pipe is a great way to reduce weight. The cats on a t2 must weight 50lbs.
